Happy Camper Pumpkin

Now that it's September, it's time to jump right in to Fall projects!

Every year I stock up on pumpkins from the dollar store. There are so many things you can do with them.

Here are some I transformed & shared on the blog back in 2011.
You can see that post HERE.
I can't believe I've been blogging that long!!!

This project is a little more whimsical than the book covered pumpkins from my past.
I started by painting the pumpkin with the Dixie Belle color Flamingo...

Once dry, I added painters tape around the pumpkin and painted below it with the color Mermaid Tail...

I used a small paintbrush to add a thin line of Colonel Mustard between the Flamingo and the Mermaid Tail...

Pencil erasers make perfect polka dots...

I painted on a door and a window, then glued flowers below the window to create a window box...

I glued on 2 wood slices for wheels...

I painted a craft stick, glued another wood slice onto it, and inserted it into the pumpkin...

I painted 3 toothpicks, inserted them into the pumpkin, and added a banner made by folding paper tape over twine and cutting the tape into triangles...

Finally, I took my camper and parked it at the lake...

Do you think this is how Cinderella goes camping?

Go Gold: Office Caddy DIY

Gold is a hot trend, not only in fashion, but also in home decor.
So, why not add a little gold glam to your office with this easy DIY?

Supplies:
Empty, clean cans
Gold Metallic Spray Paint
Gold Washi Tape
Lazy Susan

Remove labels from various size cans. Sand any sharp edges that may be on the cans.
Spray paint the cans, inside and out, with metallic gold spray paint.
While you're at it, spray paint the Lazy Susan.

Wrap the cans with Washi tape...

Place the cans on the Lazy Susan and fill with office supplies.

Notice that I wrapped some pencils with Washi tape and also spray painted the handles of some scissors.

Will you GO BOLD WITH GOLD?

Happy Camper Christmas

My birthday was back in August. My friend, Elizabeth, told me that her husband said that she should just give me a bag of rocks for my birthday because I could figure out what to do with them. Well, a couple of weeks ago, she gave me a bag of rocks! And, I was up for the challenge.

For Rock Challenge #1, I created a cute winter camping scene.

For this challenge I started with one of the larger rocks.

I covered most of the rock with DecoArt Snow-Tex.

While the Snow-Tex was still wet, I added a cute little vintage style camper that I found at Michael's.

Then I inserted a tree into the snow.

I made a banner by folding red paper tape over bakers twine and  cutting it to form triangles.

I cut a paper straw in half, then punched holes in one end and threaded the bakers twine through them.

I used hot glue to attach the straws to the back of the rock.

Thanks for the challenge, Bobby & Elizabeth!

Camping North Pole style!

What The Kids Are Creating #3

My Daughter, Carrie, has lots of curling irons. I'm not sure why anyone would need so many, but she always looks good, so what do I know! She had seen storage solutions for curling irons and hair dryers on Pinterest using PVC pipe. She had my son, John, cut the PVC pipe for her at different lengths. Then he drilled holes to attach the pipe to the inside of the cabinet door. Before John attached the pipe to the door, Carrie covered the pipe with Washi tape. John then attached the pipe to the inside of the cabinet door and not only is it the perfect storage solution, it's pretty...

While she was at it, Carrie cover an old rake handle with scrapbook paper to make a pretty display for her jewelry. You can see that post HERE.
