Marie Criddle - Izanami's Choice

So I jumped the gun and didn't realize that Adam's book wouldn't be out until September for perusal and inspiration, but I still went ahead and drew me up some Japanese robots. If it doesn't fit exactly what the robots in Izanami's Choice look like, I apologize...but I'm excited to read it in September!

K. Marie Criddle - Tattoos

Fun fact! You are NOT allowed to go to a Japanese public spa if you have tattoos; it's associated too closely with the Yakuza. Possible solution! They should make living tattoos that can peel themselves off your body when needs be. Get on it, science!

K. Marie Criddle - Pixar

So the most oft-repeated Pixar line in our household is "Preston, ENGAGE!" (as said by Helen Parr to Mr. Incredible when chasing crazy kids). So here's Mrs. Incredible, my spirit animal...carrying my son. Forgive my late submission for this month! Pixar is too fun to miss.

Marie Criddle - Back Burner

So a million years ago, I ordered a bunch of small blank cardboard sketchbooks in bulk for super cheap. I wanted to do SOMETHING grand and glorious with them, but alas, the time got away from me and they sat unused for a long long long time. This week I finished up a few big projects and decided to dig these out again for my back burner project...lo and behold! Now what do I do with them?? :)

Marie Criddle - Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I wouldn't imagine any self-respecting X-Wing pilot would just leave his helmet around willy-nilly, so one has to wonder...was there a head in there when tiny kid Rey first found it? I guess you don't HAVE to wonder, but I did.

(P.S. Guys!! I've missed this!)

Marie Criddle - Guardians of the Galaxy

I hope this isn't cheating...I did this a few months ago and was pretty happy with how Groot came out. So yeah. I'm hoping to get back on a regular drawing schedule once things start calming down around here (ha ha ha) or I'm just more used to how chaotic it's become.

Marvel/DC crossover FTW!

Marie Criddle - Star Wars Extravaganza

The colors got a little funky when animating this, but I think I like it better. It's like a sorority girl/cheerleader turned Jedi who tries really hard to take her training seriously but really just misses baton twirling.

Marie Criddle - Five Minute Drawings

Kids were distracted with Hercules for a few minutes, I sketched as fast as I could. Might have gone over a little bit...

Marie Criddle - Imagination

I was hoping to have more together by now to post, but this is what's currently monopolizing my imagination at the moment: the beginnings of a graphic novel! I've been toying with these characters for a long time and finally, the story is coming together. It might take me a million years to finish, but at least it's started. :D

Marie Criddle - Nintendo

Hi hi hi all! After what seems like MONTHS of packing and moving and hotels, we are finally settled in a real house in Maryland...with internet. Woo! Although we still don't have our stuff from Japan (it took the slow boat, we took the slightly less slow one) I have rummaged up some watercolor pens and paper to pay homage to my favorite video game and--by extension--my favorite video game based 80s cartoon. Well excuuuuuuuse me, princess.

P.S. I'm back for good now, I swear!! I missed you guys!

Marie Criddle - Opposite Hand

I'm bummed I missed out on the Team Drawing challenge (moving is craaaazy) but if it counts, I did have my daughter's sketchbook, markers and input on this drawing.

K. Marie Criddle - Teeth

So I drew a werewolf mid-transformation (for the teeth, naturally) and my husband chimed in on all the things about her teeth that might but worrisome to her dentist. Then he made sure that I drew him looking mildly appalled at her lack of dental care.

K. Marie Criddle - Kaiju

Honest, I don't have much experience with kaiju and I'm not sure what object he might be based on (except perhaps the unholy union of a sumo wrestler and an angry unicorn) buuuuuut...for scale, that's King Kong on his horn.

K. Marie Criddle - New Year's Resolution

This might require some explanation, too! In December, I put into practice Jerry Seinfeld's idea of "Don't Break the Chain"...basically a work ethic developer that says that for any endeavor you set out on, you should make a calendar that your can mark every day. For example, every day that you write or draw or whatever, you can put an X over that day...after a few days it becomes a chain (habit) and the longer it gets, the harder it will be to break that chain. More info here, I don't think I'm explaining it very well.

Anyway, I've made three calendars for myself: creative, spiritual and physical. I get to put down Xs when I draw or write that day (creative) and an X when I read my scriptures (spiritual) and an X when I go running or get to the gym (physical). A few days down and no chains have been broken yet!

So the picture (it's not me, I definitely have calves) is a bit of a representation of that, if not a bit obscure. Don't break the chain (of really long hair? wait, this might have been an excuse to just draw hair...)

Happy 2014!

Marie Criddle - Droids

Pardon the coloring, I actually drew this on packing paper.

Marie Criddle - Snacks

Savin got her first present of a "seaweed snack" from a friend at school. She tried it, but was not convinced it was an actual snack.
