Graphic45, Clearsnap, and Art Institute Glitter Blog Hop!

Want2Scrap is teaming up this week to bring you tons of inspiration using Want2ScrapGraphic 45, and Art Glitter products!

After you check out the projects here, head to the Want2Scrap, Graphic 45, and Art Glitter blogs, to find out what the talented members of their Design Team have in store for you today!

This was such a fabulous combination of products to play around with!  First up I have a little glitter tutorial for you.  Glitter can be a little tricky to work with, especially if, like me, you hate having it flake off all over the rest of your project.  So, here’s the 411 on how I apply mine.

I started with one of the new CHA releases from Want2Scrap.  This is the “Forever” Word from the Girlfriends Chipboard Words.  First, I applied a nice thick coat of Dye Ink from Clearsnap.  This ink takes a little longer to dry, which is what I need for this project.

Then, while it was still wet, I applied a liberal coating of Stamp N’ Bond Adhesive powder.

After I shook off the excess, I got my glitter ready.  This Art Institute Glitter is very fine and has a lovely layering of color within the glitter.  I used my heat tool set melt the Stamp N’ bond, then poured the glitter right on to the wet, melted adhesive, and tapped it down a little with my fingers.

You can see here what a lovely coat of glitter I got on my chipboard… and I’m happy to report that a week later, there’s still no flaking.

After my glittering was complete, I pulled out my Graphic45 Le’Romantique paper, and created this layout.  Yes, it’s 8.5x11.  I’m trying that size here and there- I love how much easier it is to store those pages in albums.

It’s a great combination, isn’t it??

It’s A Card Drive and Much More

Do you enjoy making cards? Every Tuesday in April the teachers at Miss Art's Papercrafting School will be teaming up to bring you a card tutorial, designed to spark your creativity, teach you new techniques, and meet the specifications for Operation Write Home cards.

Each Tuesday, visit the Miss Art's blog to view the tutorial. Then join designers Karen Hanson, Alyssa McGrew, Tina McDonald, and Jodi Baune in creating cards to donate to Operation Write Home. Cards will be collected at the Miss Art's office, then forwarded as a group to the Operation Write Home distribution center. Every card we receive will become an entry to win the Esther's Innovations kit from Miss Art's! You can send as many cards as you like, earning as many entries as you like, but only cards following the OWH guidelines will be eligible. Cards must be received by May 25th, 2012 to be eligible for the drawing. International entries and cards are welcome. Cards created should be shipped to:

2011 Christmas House

Last year, I started a new tradition.  I just finished the second year of making paper Christmas Houses, and I can already picture the village I will have in a few years time!

I did this project last night, and decided at the last minute to create a little tutorial for you.  The photos are from nighttime, so pardon the lighting… it was all I had at the time!

Here are the finished houses I have completed so far:

christmashousepair

Last year’s house started as a project for Prima Marketing.  For this year’s house, I chose the This and That collection from Lily Bee Designs.
1. Cut house shape with die cutting machine.  I used a file called “3D Love House” from Silhouette.

christmashouse1

2. Using a ruler or straight edge, fold the house and crease edges in the appropriate points.

christmashouse2

3.Adhere patterned paper to the insides of the windows and doors (if desired).

4. Glue the house together at the side seam.

christmashouse3

5. Cut strips of paper in varying widths (1/2” to 3/4”) and 1-1/2” lengths.  Ink the edges of the strips.

christmashouse4

6. Using a pencil or other round tool, slightly curl one end of each strip.

christmashouse5

7. Adhere the “shingles” in rows, staggering the widths to add interest.

christmashouse6

8. Trim excess lengths, then cut a strip of paper, fold lengthwise, and adhere to the roof peak as a cap.

9.  Add glitter glue or stickles to the roof as ice and snow.

christmashouse7

10. Embellish as desired.

I hope you enjoy this little tutorial.  Thanks for stopping by!

Vintage Lace Flowers

(This tutorial originally appeared on the Couture Cardstock blog).
Remember last week when I referred to a new flower tutorial I was working on? Well, here it is!
flower tut final
First, assemble your supplies:
White cardstock
Glimmer Mist
Lace (12″)
Flower centers, gems, or pearls
Heat tool
Paintbrush or rub-on tool
Super-High Tack Tape, Fabri-tac or similar adhesive
Scallop ruler or 1″ circle template
2″ flower templete or die-cut
Ready? Ok, here we go. This should only take about 15 minutes and is tested to withstand clingy two-year olds. :)
1. Use your scallop ruler and flower template to trace a 12″ strip and flower. Other options include die-cutting or free-handing these shapes.
flower tut_pic12. Cut them out (or die cut). Here is what you should have:
flower_tut pic 2(The flower can vary a little, but should average 2 inches.)
3. Fold the scalloped strip with diagonal fold so that it starts to curve into a flower. You should have one fold between each scallop.
flower_tut pic 3
4. Attach the ends using the tape or your favorite high-tack adhesive. Trim as needed to complete the final scallop.
flower tut_pic 4
5. Choose your desired mist color(s) and spray your bottom flower throughly. It should be fairly wet. It is optional to spray the back, depending on the look you want for your petals.
6. Using the end of a paint brush, rub-on tool or any other narrow instrument, curl up the edges of your flower petals.
flower_tut pic 5
7. Using your heat tool, dry your flower. This will both “set” the pleating and the curl, and stiffen your flower.
flower_tut pic 6
8. Repeat the misting and curling steps with your smaller flower.
9. Before drying your smaller flower, pinch the center a little to add texture and dimension. Then dry and set with your heat tool.
flower_tut pic 7
10. Place some high-tack tape or Fabri-tac on the back of your smaller flower. Then apply your lace, gently pleating it to conform to the circular shape.
flower tut pic 9
11. Using more high-tack tape or your favorite adhesive, attach the smaller flower to the larger one.
12. Add flower center or embellish as desired.
flower tut pic 10

Well, there you have it! What do you think?
