Art Of Noise - In No Sense? Nonsense! - 1987

Not a whole lot to say about this one, today.  Just another collection of AoN perfection.  When this album came out, I had heard a couple of their songs that I thought were pretty good.  But, I didn't really get into them until after I got their Best Of set, and started collecting their singles.  So, most of this album was beyond me until about the mid to late 90s.

Although I am not a huge fan of Dragnet, I found the rest of the album to be incredible.  Great, great stuff.  And, I know that Kiss was more a part of their Best Of release, but I wanted to associate it with an album, and this was the closest one.

Please let me know if I've missed anything....

Have a great evening!

Art Of Noise - Who's Afraid of (the Art of Noise!) - 1984

It's funny that AoN ever even released a Greatest Hits in the 80s.  I know they had singles, so maybe they should have just called it Singles or something.  I say this because I feel that every album, in itself would make it virtually impossible to distinguish which songs were the "greatest", as every song is a masterpiece in it's own right, and it becomes subjective on who is listening and deciding which is better than the other.  Sometimes, I would consider it impossible even to have one person decide, as whenever I listen to one of their albums, the songs I like change and shift back and forth with my age, time and environment.

I listened to this album once again as I prepared the cover (I usually listen to the album in question when I'm making the cover.  It gets me in the mood.)  Anyway, I realized that as I hadn't listened to it in probably a decade, the songs I originally liked had now changed.  And they had changed the last time I listen to them, too.  I have to say, looking at the track list right now, at one time or another, every song on the album had once been my favorite song.  Is it a greatest hits?  Hard to say, as they would have to be greater than something, and right now they are all equally good.

But, that opinion is hardly worth debating.

We all know that the singles were Beat Box, Close to..., and Moments in Love.  I think the most well known was the Close to... as the Edit version had the video of the little punk rock girl with the chainsaw.  What a great video, I loved that one!  But, all three of those singles had about 10 mixes each, and could each fill their own CD (I might do that later) and some of the mixes are near impossible to track down.  I'm still missing Diversions 4 and 9 of Beat Box, and I can't tell if I have all of the mixes of the other two.  Does anyone out there have a complete list of all the mixes of these three songs?  It would be helpful....

I hope you like this album.  As with all other AoN albums, it is a piece of art that needs to be treasured...  (I'm sure MLG will like this one, at least ;) )

Art Of Noise - In Visible Silence - 1986

After purchasing The Best of Art of Noise my Senior Year in high school, this was the first album of theirs I actually bought, specifically because of Peter Gunn and Opus 4.  Little did I know what a wonderful album it was in itelf.  Pure classic AoN, I think this was them at their prime best.  Every track is a work of art, no pun intended.

The best tracks on the album is the two part Backbeat and then Beatback.  I remember driving down the street with it loud as hell, and tapping my hand on the top of the steering wheel with my white man's overbite and head nodding.  Good jammin' stuff.

It's unfortunate that after their greatest hits, they sorta sucked ass from the mid-nineties through today.  Some will beg to differ, but I outgrew them and I think they lost their creative edge.  Too bad.

I loved the cover, and continued it on this sleeve, adding some yellowed edges for aging.  Gives it more character, if you ask me.  I only kept the album tracks and the b-side, as the mixes are already on the GH projects I've already released...

Art of Noise - Long Version of the Best Of - 1989

Last month I posted my version of AoN's best hits, which were pretty much the singles and some b-sides.  I pressed it all onto one disc, making it my "short version".  All the tracks were the single mixes, so i don't think I had anything over 4 minutes.

This is my "long version", and has all of my favorite remixes and extended versions.  They are the same album, just with different mixes of the tracks.

Art of Noise is great.  It's very neutral, very positive and objective.  Full of energy and creativity, every song sounds like a group of people just having the best time making music that they truly love.

What's great is I still haven't posted one of their albums yet.  Wait until that happens!

Art of Noise - The Best of? - 1989

Not much to say about this one, other than the fact that I've said many times that I don't like "Greatest Hits" albums.  This is an example.  I redid this one front to back, top to bottom.  I have 3 different versions, just to incorporate the material that needs to be there.  This is the shortest of the 3.  This version has the edited single cuts, plus b-sides, which gives a definite flavor of their entire catalog on a single disc.

There.  That's all I had to say!
