Crime Scene Media Pocket

This is the the last prototype of my media pocket, the one that I am nearly 100% happy with. Since the media pocket was for us, I thought that I would play around with a bit of hand embroidery.

Still not happy with the finish near the zip, but I will fix that in the ones that I will do for Saturday (not that I am leaving anything to the last minute!)

If I still had my friends Gocco I would probably screen print the image on, but doing the hand embroidery didn't take that long.

Inside I have put "police do not cross" fabric ... a little surprise.

My hubby and I needed a pocket for our portable hard drive, but I wanted the storage pocket to fit the various nintendo devices. The pocket on the front is for storing the usb cable or game chips.

Here is a close up of the fabric! I have lots of geeky fabric in my collection, so I will probably make a few these with computer chips, bolts and skulls.Reblog this post [with Zemanta]

The wheels on the train ...

I have been quite industrious today, sewing away making some basic stock items for Made n Thornbury this afternoon after I got home from my teaching "day" job. On a Tuesday I am home at lunchtime (well, around 2ish) and then I get a few hours of sewing done before picking my husband up from work and then driving to my inlaws to have dinner with my daughter. A long day.

My list of "things to make for a market if I have time" is always quite long and I try and stock up on things that I think people might buy based on sales of the last few markets.

This Sunday of course, is Fathers Day. So I have tried to have my "manly hat" on while sewing. Trains seem to be the order of the day for my husband at the moment, so I thought I would knock up a few things using some realistic train fabric that I picked up a few weeks back. Would you buy this for your Dad if you were a kid?

I try to re-stock the things that sold at the last market and introduce at least one new item. I made a prototype for my "new" item this afternoon, there is still a bit of work to go, making sure the measurements are right and that it sits right ... all will be revealed.

These pencil cases seem to be a hit amongst little people. Their little hands can grab a hold of the cord and pull it shut or open. I only have limited supply of this fabric, so once these are sold on the weekend that will probably be it!

Developing a Market Bag

I have been working on a 'market bag' to sell in my etsy shop. Big enough for wallet, deep enough for a water bottle and various bits and pieces that you would take to a market.

I decided to use some of the material that I used for the pinafore for Sarah as I had some left over fabric and also some left over petals. So I did a bit of quilting and applique to refine my technique and voila ...

I still have to finish it with some stiffening around the mouth of the bag, put in a magnetic snap and I think I might put in some more robust straps with some glides and rings and some plastic on the bottom to give it shape. Of course it could have a zip in it, but for the purpose of working with a new shape, I am just going to put in a snap. What do you think? Comments?
