Made n Thornbury

Made n Thornbury was my first market in over a year. A little bit anxious about it all, but it was a fun day and it was great to catch up with a lot of familiar faces.

Due to my ankle injury, "sewing for a business" isn't much of an option at the moment. So I turned my hand at some necklaces and brooches. Of course with Mothers Day around the corner, the brooches were a hit!

I am hoping to try some more sewing soon, but I need to build up my strength in my ankle for those sewing marathons that I love so much.

What did you get up to this weekend?

My Creative Space

I have been looking forward to my next market and my first one in over a year. Konstant Kaos will be at Made n Thornbury on Saturday 5th May, 2012.

So my Creative Space this week is full of bits and bobs, necklaces and roses! My creations often start off as something that I would create for myself and then they take on a life of their own.

Saturday 5th May seems to be a great day for Markets, after going to Made n Thornbury head on over to the Sisters Market at Northcote Town Hall (or vice versa).

Want to see more creative spaces? Head on over and take a look.

Made n Thornbury Wrap Up

With the roller coaster which was Made n Thornbury followed by Fathers Day, I haven't had a moment to post about my day! The thing that I love about Made n Thornbury is that there is a small collection of stall owners, all of which are women in business (or micro business).

Such a lovely supportive group of chicks in biz. Mrs Beckinsale was there with her Tram Cushions, Curlypops with her lovely brooches and also Felicity or Flickitysplitts with her Cattacus Softies.

New to Konstant Kaos was my coin/key wallets. D ring on the side for hanging off chains, hook to link keys onto and big enough to keep a licence.

I tried some different fabrics and my dracula, frankenstein and computer circuit wallets sold the quickest!

Got to meet some new groovy people. My neighbour was Liz from Loophole Community Centre. They are doing such fun stuff at Loophole, check them out!

My stash for the day included some lovely calling cards from Pivotal Xpressions, brooch from Finki Handmade, teddy brooch from Very Cherry Stew and the doily with scissors screen printed on it from Liz from Loophole.

Come and visit me at Made n Thornbury Market

It has been a busy week teaching, sewing, caring for Tori.

I have been looking forward to this market all week. The Made n Thornbury market is a gorgeous intimate makers market with a great bunch of women who all run micro-businesses.

Hoping that you can make it, even if it is just to say hello. I noticed that a few houses down from the Market will also have organised garage sales on that day, so the street will be buzzing!

There will be plenty of crafty people there including Pivotal Xpressions, Finki, Mrs Beckinsale, Flickettysplits, Cheeky Little Monsters and Curlypops.

The wheels on the train ...

I have been quite industrious today, sewing away making some basic stock items for Made n Thornbury this afternoon after I got home from my teaching "day" job. On a Tuesday I am home at lunchtime (well, around 2ish) and then I get a few hours of sewing done before picking my husband up from work and then driving to my inlaws to have dinner with my daughter. A long day.

My list of "things to make for a market if I have time" is always quite long and I try and stock up on things that I think people might buy based on sales of the last few markets.

This Sunday of course, is Fathers Day. So I have tried to have my "manly hat" on while sewing. Trains seem to be the order of the day for my husband at the moment, so I thought I would knock up a few things using some realistic train fabric that I picked up a few weeks back. Would you buy this for your Dad if you were a kid?

I try to re-stock the things that sold at the last market and introduce at least one new item. I made a prototype for my "new" item this afternoon, there is still a bit of work to go, making sure the measurements are right and that it sits right ... all will be revealed.

These pencil cases seem to be a hit amongst little people. Their little hands can grab a hold of the cord and pull it shut or open. I only have limited supply of this fabric, so once these are sold on the weekend that will probably be it!

Sisters Stash

I am waiting for cookie dough to harden in the freezer, so I thought I had better do a post about the Sisters Market yesterday. The day was quieter than I have ever seen the market, but I did ok, especially since it was the middle of winter!

I had a rack to put things on, but there was no space either side, so the rack went behind and was used as a storage device. I put a few bags on the table for people to look at and tried to display things behind the stall.

The most popular product of the day was .... pirate baby bibs .. go figure. They walked out the door. So I might have to do more bibs and some pirate screen printed tops for the kids for the next market.

The lovely Jay had a stall opposite me, knitting away and selling lots of stuff. Beky and Jennie visited to say hello and when Andreas came in for my lunch break, I managed to do the rounds and buy a few treasures.

Firstly a gorgeous illustration that we will frame and maybe put in Tori's room by Elise Hurst, I got some fabric from the lovely PippiJoe and a lovely crafty necklace from Lauren Williams. Overall a good experience, the next market is Made n Thornbury and after that Northside Makers in Northcote (Beky has blogged about it).

Thornbury Market .... part 2

It feels like a lifetime ago that I did Thornbury Market, but it was just last week! I have been down with a virus and so I haven't even done a blog post :(

One of the reasons that I started this blog was to document my journey in starting my own small business. So posting pictures of market stalls, product developments and ideas is important to me.

Made n Thornbury
was a great little market to do. I am getting better at the set up and pack up and enjoy the whole interacting with the customer process, getting feedback and discussing possibilities. The thing that was good about this market, was that all the stall holders were women who were in similar circumstances to moi!

There were lots of other lovely designers and crafters there such as ...

Kaos Notebook

I am running out of space in my current notebook. It is blue and has an old business card stuck to the front of it ... it works well and I like the size, but I can't get another one (I have tried).

So I re-purposed a notebook that was given to me, I didn't quite like the style pastel butterfly style of it. So, introducing the Kaos Notebook!

Covered in felt appliqué and embroidered homespun with the classic Konstant Kaos symbol.

But the one thing that I am still deciding upon is ... do I do a ribbon bookmark like this one, or do I do a piece of nice elastic to keep all of my bits and pieces together?

If I stumble across some suitable quality notebooks, I might make a few with different patterns for the my Mothers Day Market stall this weekend at Thornbury Women's Centre.

What do you think? Ribbon or Elastic? Good or Bad?
