Birthday Fun

Jumpsuit: Loft (cute option); Jacket: My Mom's (similar); Sandals: Target (cute option);
Tote: Stella & Dot; Hat: Target; Necklaces: Jane Basch/Stella & Dot;
Earrings: Stella & Dot

Last Sunday was my husband's birthday, and to celebrate him, my son took him out for donuts! (Guess who paid....) From there, we went to Worlds of Fun for a little roller coaster action. And when I say roller coaster action, I mean a turn around Planet Snoopy and all the new rides they've added for the tykes! When my husband finished the day, he asked McKinley if he had had a good birthday. I think everyone had a little birthday fun.

My sweet aunt gave me this jumpsuit as an early Easter gift. (Remember when I blogged about my Wednesday Wants with this piece among them? Well, she did!) I love it! It's so light weight, incredibly comfortable, and the varying stripes give it such a fun vibe! And, did you know the back's out? I didn't either, but I love it. Adds a little built in air condition and will be the perfect swimsuit coverup!

There are so many other elements about this look that I love. I added my mom's vintage jean jacket for the cool morning. I'm loving my new sandals from Target. They remind me so much of this Bass pair my mom had in the 80s. And the Voyager tote is awesome! It's reversible and made of a wipeable fabric that allows for all the scuffs, spills, and splashes that come with summer!

Can you believe we are in May? We attended McKinley's last Pre-K music program yesterday and I admit a cried! I can't believe he is in the last month of Pre-K!! However, I'm looking forward to our summer together before he heads off to Kindergarten. Definitely a time to document every little detail!

Happy Monday, Fashionista's!

A Day with McKinley

Poncho: Tahari (cute option/60% off), T-Neck: Kohls; Jeans: Loft (similar); Sneakers: Converse;
Hat: J.Crew; Scarf: My Mom Made; All Jewelry: Stella & Dot; Lip Color: NARS Shanghai Express

Yesterday McKinley and I took total advantage of a January day that reached the upper 50s! We spent four hours at the zoo and enjoyed every minute of it. The animals were out in full force and some were out to play! And it was so quiet. There were several families out, but we never seemed crowded at any of the exhibits. McKinley and I were able to spend time where we wanted, discussed the animals he had questions about, and just spent quality time with one another on a truly beautiful day. It was simply the best day!

Because the day started out in the low 40s, I went with tons of layers! I am literally wearing three tops! A long sleeved white tee, a cashmere turtleneck, and the wool striped poncho. I added the long scarf at the last minute and so glad I did! I was comfortably warm all day! I love the pop of color with the burgundy hat and sneaker. And let's be honest, just because I was at the zoo doesn't mean I can't be chic, so I added my new chandalier earrings and leather bracelet from the new Stella & Dot spring line. Aren't they fab?

Hello 2016

T-Shirt: Boden; Button Down: J.Crew Factory (similar); Jeans: Loft (similar);
Sneakers: Converse (similar); Shades: Karen Walker via Gilt; Necklace: Stella & Dot
Lip Color: Chanel Jean

Saying Hello to 2016! This is what I wore for the first day of the New Year and I was ready to say hi! As you know from earlier in the week, I'm taking a Leap, but I'm also saying Hello to a year that's going to be bigger than last! I've set goals, trying to keep a positive mind set, and putting all of this out in the universe in hopes of an incredible return!

Because it was the first day of the year, I didn't want anything but comfortable! I can't stay up late anymore and I felt the effects the next day. As I get older, I just don't bounce back like I used to. I think I took a good hour plus nap that afternoon! And when you have styled your most relaxed pieces in your wardrobe, it's easy to feel relaxed. Hello...

I hope your first full week back has been as easy as this look! And that the New Year has been fashionably chic! So much to look forward to and so much to blog about in the coming weeks and months! I hope you continue to follow the journey!

Happy Friday!
XOXO

A Little Weekend Grunge

I love dressing up, but I also love dressing down. Way down! Do you ever have one of those days where you just want a little grunge, but on the chic side? Well, that's this look for me! Sure, it's not lace and fur, but a little flannel, mixed prints, and fun booties dress up my grungy look! And it's perfect for these chillier fall days!

One Last Summer Carnival

 Blazer: Loft (cute option); Tee: Target (similar); Jeans: Loft (similar); Sandals: Rachel Zoe (similar);
Shades: Karen Walker via Gilt; Necklaces: The Zoe Report/Stella & Dot; Nail Color: Chanel

A couple of weeks ago we attended Old Settlers Days which is what I consider the end of summer carnival here in Kansas City. And as always, we had a blast! McKinley rode rides, we ate typical carnival food, drank a giant hand squeezed lemonade, and I rode a mama ride that left me dizzy for the rest of the day!

The day started out on the cool side so I went with a cute blazer and boyfriend jeans look. Had I known it would warm up like it did, I would have gone with shorts like in the look below! All was good though. I simply threw the blazer under the stroller and rocked this 3/4 sleeve tee for the rest of the afternoon.

I'm having a blast dressing with this early fall weather! It has me in the mood to move a little further into the sweater department. I'm not ready for tights, but tall boots are just around the corner!

Edge

 Top: Ann Taylor (similar); Skirt: Rachel Zoe via Gilt (similar); Belt: Ann Taylor (similar);
Shoes: Giuseppe Zanotti (gift); Shades: MbyMJ; Handbag: Baleciaga (similar);
Necklaces: Tori Spelling (similar)/Ann Taylor; Fitbit Bracelet: Bezels and Bytes; Rings: Gorjana

Last week I attended a fun shopping event at Park Place. It was a progressive cocktail party complete with appetizers and shopping! I was very conservative in my shopping. I only spent a little over $8 on the cutest little midi-ring. I can't wait to share how dainty and chic it is.

As I dressed for the event, I thought about my need to add a little more edge in my life and daily look. Now I realize this isn't something I can easily wear to the zoo or the farmstead, but I am going to figure out a way to make something similar to this work for me on a day to day basis. But for a girls night out, this was perfect! And the edge I was looking for!

The Skirt: Before and After

I have to admit that I'm loving this extravagant layers of necklaces! It's this piece mixed with part of this one and it makes one big statement! And, I received so many compliments.

Styling Tip: When adding this many layers of necklaces to your look, make sure that's all you wear! No need for earrings and stacks of bracelets. The necklaces and delicate rings are all a look like this needs.

What do you think of my edge look? Am I on track? I adore this look! And if I do say so myself, I feel pretty edgy!

Hope your week is off to a fashionable start! The big secret mission starts this week. Stay tuned for more exciting details!

Peackock Inspired

 Jacket: My Mom's (similar); Top: Ann Taylor (similar); Shorts: J.Crew Factory (similar);
Sneakers: Converse; Hat: Target; Necklace: Stella & Dot/Tori Spelling via HSN;
 Shades: Karen Walker via Gilt

I mentioned in yesterday's post that McKinley and I spent the afternoon at the farmstead. We visited all the animals around the farm, but the most impressive of the day was the peacock! He was literally strutting his stuff that afternoon with this feathers on full display! He was gorgeous and the colors within his train, bright greens and royals blues, were something of an inspiration. Hence my Sunday look for our family trip to the zoo.

These bright green shorts are pretty close to the greens in that beautiful peacock. And, I just love the color. I had all but forgotten about this striped tee and so glad it has reentered my wardrobe! A perfect combo against a bright color. The denim jacket didn't last very long, it got hot quick, but I don't usually leave home without it. Throw on a hat, sneakers, and a statement necklace, and you're out the door.

The Top: Before and After

Isn't this necklace a stunner? I don't wear it often, it's fairly heavy, but this look needed a little pop of something and this guy totally fit the bill...no pun intended!

Do you ever draw inspiration from nature when putting a look together? Even the backdrop was a perfect setting! Those wild flowers are glorious!

Hope you're having a stylin' day!
