The Big Rig

Yum
Ever since I renamed the blog, I haven't shared much on the truckin' end of things.  That is primarily due to Truckin' Mans new job. Not that it's new anymore.

He sold off the Peterbilt a while back and went to work for a heavy haul company. When he started there, it was through a hiring agency, and I couldn't be in the truck. After he was fully on with the company, I just never had the opportunity to ride with. This job is a Monday - Friday job, and home nights! Awesome, right? It is unless you want to go for a ride with your husband!

Well, I finally had a chance. There was a short local run to pick up one piece of equipment, so away we went.

I see this truck in the driveway everyday, and never realized how much bigger the Mack is compared to the Peterbilt we knew for so many years. Dang, that was a jump getting in there.

I finally made it in!

You set really high up in this rig!

For the equipment we were picking up this time, the trailer has to come off the truck, so that the equipment can be driven up on. Interesting!

If the workers have already left the job site, Truckin' Man gets to drive the equipment himself.
His dream job!

Once the equipment is loaded, the trailer is hooked back up, and we are ready to roll again.

 Fun, right?

Back to the 50's

Yum
Back to the 50's is an annual event held in Minnesota at the State Fairgrounds.
I attended my first Back to the 50's 20 years ago.
Yikes! Really??? Hardly seems possible, but it's a fact.

This year was the 42nd year of the event.
Only the 2nd year attending for Truckin' Man.
I think he is hooked on it.

There were almost 12,000 cars that were 1964 or older. 11,816 to be exact.
Truckin' Man wanted to try to see at least 11,000 of them. (We didn't)

This event seems to always be on the hottest day of the year, but this year the temps were on our side.

Truckin' Man has dreams of building a Rat Rod, so I snapped this picture for him.

This truck was up next to the diner we stopped at for lunch. Had to do a double take on the logo!

Have you ever been to Back to the 50's
If you are even in St. Paul, on Father's Day weekend, I highly recommend checking it out!

New Adventure in Truckin'

Yum
Truckin' Man has a new adventure in his trucking. He is no longer self employed! Lots of changes in this move, but most importantly he is still driving a Peterbilt!

With the type of hauling he does, he doesn't work much in the winter. That has meant I have not been online as much and having quite as much time for the blog and social media's. Don't worry though, I will pick up the pace here once he goes back to work.

One of the things he loves most about his new adventure, is that when he gets to his destination, he does not have to sit for HOURS upon HOURS waiting for places to decide they have time to unload his trailer. Now when he gets to his location, he loads and unloads his trailer himself! Sometimes there are other guys there for other loads, but they all work as a team and help each other. So, when he is working, he is home more!

Just look at what he is hauling! You know he is lovin' this!

A Little Road Trip

Yum
Last weekend was my birthday, so we took the day off from responsibilities and went on a little road trip. I LOVE road trips, and going down new roads. So, on our adventure I drove. That way I got to go down any unknown road I wanted! Truckin' Man is more of thinking to take the most direct way from point A to point B. Guess that comes with his occupation.

Living in the Mississippi River Valley there is no end to scenic overlooks, but for our road trip I remembered seeing signs for the ferry that runs across the Mississippi from Cassville, Wisconsin to Guttenberg, Iowa. I knew it is a popular road trip for bikers and they do seem to always know the scenic routes!

Here is where we waited for the ferry in Cassville, Wisconsin.

One of the amazing views of the Mississippi River

This really was quite the experience. When you live in the midwest, there are very few large bodies of water, and even fewer opportunities to take a ferry ride!

 The Ferry!
I really didn't have the chance to take any photo's during on ride, as I was lucky enough to meet the captains wife, and chatted with her the entire trip.

A view of the Mississippi from the Iowa side of the river.
Barges are a very common site on the river.

Hope you enjoyed this little bit of life near the Mississippi.

Trucks Everywhere!

Yum
Despite how much of my life revolves around trucks and the trucking industry, I had never been to a truck show..... Until this weekend. We learned about one over in the little town of Kasson, MN. The Big Iron Classic Truck Show And Charity Drive. Not to far away, so we made the trip.

Trucks, Trucks and more trucks. Peterbilts everywhere! Pretty fun seeing them all lined up.

Working trucks, not just show trucks

The work and customization on the trucks is amazing!

We learned that we (meaing I) really do like trucks that are white.

The paint options are endless.

Love this truckers travel companion.

Truckin' Man loved this truck.

With temps well over my breaking point, I was so happy to find the tent selling water.
Best water ever!!!

A Day of Local Sightseeing

Yum
It's a very rare day that we have a day with no work, on or off the farm. But, Truckin' Man thought we were due, I agreed. He left the planning up to me.

First, we went to a local county fair, but there wasn't much going on there.

So, down the road we went to a car show. Lot's of fun cars.

This was my favorite.

We stopped for a lunch and ice cream, and ate along side an oat field.

Next off to a small park.

Old stairs to the top of the bluff. We didn't test their weight capacity, and went one at a time.

Very pretty up top. Looks like back in the day before budget cuts, it was probably well groomed.

The Natural Bridge.

 The other side!

We ended the day at a drive-inn for dinner and a root beer!

Looking forward to our next day off!

A Day in the Peterbilt

Yum
When I started blogging, I really thought I would share more of the trips from riding along in the Peterbilt. Fact is, it doesn't happen that often. And, when it does, it is usually night time.... not leaving many photo ops!

Yesterday though... The weather turned, so we weren't accomplishing anything outdoors, and today looked to be the nice day. So, Truckin' Man made the executive decision to get his load hauled before the better weather got here. Nothing for me to do yesterday, but ride along!

Ready to roll..... Yes, we live in the sticks!

Just a rainy gloomy day, running on the highway.

Not a great pic, but I really still am amazed at the amount of controls and gauges taken to run one of these!

The things you see on the road. And this was in a city!

I don't like heights, but I love pretty bridges!

Driving through southern Minnesota.

Got to experience my first tire blow out. Not a fan.
My head finally hit my pillow at 2:29 am.
It was a long, but good trip.
