Random 5 Friday

Yum
Random 5 Friday is back, and I am so happy! Led by Nancy at A Rural Journal
what we share is "5 random facts about you, your day,  your pets, your kids, whatever!"

I watch American Idol.  Yes, I admit this. I really enjoyed last weeks performance by Adam.

Since Truckin' Man is working limited hours this winter, he is going to get the gardening going early, and start some veggies by seed this year.

We took a little road trip on Thursday and visited Antique Archaeology.  Anyone else watch American Pickers as much as my husband?

On our road trip we followed the Mississippi River. At the southern end of our trip, the river was not covered in ice. A lovely site to see.

Temperatures are supposed to be above freezing this weekend. I could not be more excited!

Random 5 Friday

Yum

After a conversation this week with Carla, from The River, about morels,
I am so excited for picking season to get here!

Yesterday,  we went to meet with all the powers that be, and the farm is finally in our name!

Since the farm is in our name, Truckin' Mans "Honey do list" just grew by a mile :)

There is still to much snow outside to do anything much out there, but the hens sure think otherwise. It's fun being outside, just watching them stretch their wings.

Our barn cat,s that started living in the basement with all the horrible weather, are finally back outside. I think they are a little sad, thinking they were getting promoted to indoor status.

Bleeding Hearts - I hope to see them again soon.

I've been without our laptop for 6 days now. All because I didn't have an "I" key anymore. It's been a long 6 days, but it gets easier every day. Kind of like breaking an addiction

With the harsh winter, I have started filling our bird feeder. It seems like it gets emptied faster and faster each time. Not sure if they are getting hungrier or word is spreading on where the little birds can find food.

It was Truckin' Mans birthday on Thursday, so I baked him a cheesecake, that was his birthday wish. My first time ever baking one. As of my time writing this post, he isn't home yet, so the verdict isn't in yet on how well I did. I can say say that it sure looks yummy!

We lost our little bantam hen last week. All my fault for not realizing what this winter is doing to wild critters appetites. I left an opening for a critter, and he took it. Shame on me, but lesson learned, and that mistake won't happen again. RIP, Butterscotch.

With the whole laptop thing going on, I have been trying out Instagram on my phone. I am really liking it. Much better than some of the other social media's. So far anyway. Are you on Instagram?

  • Our outdoor dog and two barn cats have become permanent residents in our basement. I hope someday it's warm enough for them to be outside full time again.

  • I am starting to think about our garden, and what I want to plant this year. Every year we try a new vegetable to help us eat new things. I have been buying beets lately, and I think those will be our new garden veg.

  • Words I never thought I would say. "Hold the milk, I need to get pickles out of my pocket"! In my defense, we had been out to eat and had pickles left on our plates (neither of us eat pickles). I wondered if the chickens would eat them, so I brought them home.

  • I finally went in for testing on my allergies, the tests revealed several mild allergies. The most interesting result I got back was that I have a sensitivity to egg whites,
apparently that was my strongest  reaction. I am really bummed out about that,
but better to be "sensitive to" than "allergic to", right?

  • Super excited for my blogger friend Mandy today. She made the announcement that she has been to Food Network! How cool is that?! I am so excited to see how this adventure goes for her. If you have been following my blog long, you know that I love love love her cooking!
If you don't know Mandy, check her out at here!

Random 5 Friday

Our little bantam, Butterscotch, laid her first egg yesterday! That was a long time waiting.

Dental work is so discouraging in my family where bad teeth are in the gene's. I no more than recovered from last weeks dental procedure, and an old filling fell out. Ugh.

I usually prefer salty snacks to sweet ones.  But when I am standing in line at the grocery store, 9 times out of 10, I leave with a Reece's Peanut Butter Cup :)

I love my job, my employers, and my co-workers. It is so enjoyable going to work every day. I know how lucky and fortunate I am to be able to say this.

Vacation plans are in the works. The thoughts of warmer places are helping keep us warm. Even though it's more than a month away, it's still nice to know that it's coming!

Happy Friday Ya'll!

I think we are all going a little stir crazy this winter, and want to stretch our legs when the weather permits.
Even our four legged friends.

As many people do, we plan on some year soon spending our winters in a climate warmer than Wisconsin. We do like snow though, just looking for milder... Tennessee or Carolina's maybe?

I spend more time than I should looking at property for sale. Places that are not realistic at all.
Like this one.

I had to get a tooth pulled this week. Not sure what was more brutal,
that or the recent temperatures.

Truckin' Man went back on the road this week. He took the week of Christmas and New Years off.... Then Monday the rig wouldn't start due to the temps. Tuesday the place he was delivering was closed due to the weather. Wednesday... finally, on the road again!

Random 5 Friday

Yum
So, I am trying something new on the blog today.
For some time now, I have been reading Random 5 Friday where some of my blogger friends link up.
I've decided to give this a try, and see how I like it.
Rules are:  Share 5 random facts about you, your day, your pets, your kids, whatever!

Random 5 Friday

The new snow plow driver in our township is awesome, he is making winter a lot easier to handle.

I received several new cookbooks for Christmas, I am so excited to start reading them.

I wish our snow plow driver was our mail carrier. A PO Box may be in order if we want to get our mail.

Trying a new recipe for cabbage and ham soup tomorrow. It was recommended by a friend.

Our Christmas tree will be up for a few more days. My parents make a point of visiting every year to see our tree, and the way the roads have been, they haven't been here yet.
