"Please will you pass me the ball of pink wool?"
My teenaged son dutifully made his way over to the basket of wool to which I'd gestured, considered it's contents for a moment, made his selection and promptly threw it to at me. (Teenaged boys do that I've noticed, throw everything.)
"That's not pink!" I said.
"Yes it is." He said (looking at me as if I was slightly mad).
Guess which one he chose?
The one on the left.
The one that Debbie Bliss has named Peach Melba.
It's not the first time we've had this argument.
It would seem that colours are subjective.
Either that or he's colour blind.

It's a man thing (or boy thing!).
ReplyDeleteI think it's endearing that he actually fetched it for you without comment - what a good son!
Gill xx
Yes you're right, Gill!!! It's most definitely a man thing. I used to have a dear little red mini and my husband always refers to it as being orange. Gah! x
DeleteIt's most definitely a boy thing Heath! Mark and I have the same arguement about 'turquoise' all the time....is it blue/green or green/blue?!?!?
ReplyDeleteCaroline xxx
Oh dear......I must have the same problem as your son, they are all various shades of pink lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I'm not the only mum with boys that 'throw' everything to me! Is call all those yarns pinks ......left to right.....ballet pink, nude pink, salmon pink, blue pink. There does come a point though when the other colour in the pink dominates so much that it can't be called a pink! X
ReplyDeleteIt's the colour cream that drives me nuts!! Especially with emulsion! Our cream landing looks lemon - our cream kitchen looks peach - I've seen cream that looks pink! I just want a creamy cream!!

ReplyDeleteI'd call them all pink too. Maybe I'm colour blind?! X
ReplyDeletewhat a fun post Heather!! i love some of the yarn names, they can be so original and evocative.... my hubby and i have the same issue with certain shades of blue, that i call blue and he calls green..... Funny men...!! Pati xx
ReplyDeleteOh that's funny! But just to throw the cat among the pigeons, so to speak, which ball of yarn did you want your son to pass - just so there's no confusion, haha! Hugs, Joy xo
ReplyDeleteThat's such a cute story, I can totally idenity with, because I have a 13 year old boy at home too. By the way, those pinks look good enough to eat :)
ReplyDeleteI know!!!
ReplyDeleteI think Men in general do not get the whole color thing!!!
My husband would definitely call the Peach Melba "pink" too :)))
They just aren't as refined in these things as we ladies are ;)
Have a lovely weekend.
I always love all your posts,
~Danette
Tee Hee, definitely a man thing - my hubby refers to any shades from light beige, through taupe and mocha to dark chocolate as an all-encompassing "brown" and would definitely insist that peach is a fruit, not a colour!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend,
Xx
My husband and I forever argue about pink or purple!
ReplyDeleteHaha, I can relate to this- the male colour confusion and compulsion of teenage boys to throw everything. A few days ago my son asked me (very politely) to throw him a slice of cake!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is most definitely peach but bless him, at least he did as you asked! I'm impressed. Men are such silly creatures, but we love them none the less. My hubby insists on referring to green things as brown! He also insists he is not colour blind. I will allow you to make your own conclusions!
ReplyDeleteI think they are all shades of pink so I have to side with your son on this one :-) I'd not ask my hubby to pass me a colour though as he never gets it right!!
ReplyDeleteHah, me and the hubs frequently have this debate over greens and blues in my house. I keep pointing out that men have more problems with colour but he refuses to yield!
ReplyDeleteS x
That's so funny a boy thing as is the throwing I asked my nephew to take some of the clean washing upstairs last week, he said where shall I put it, I said just throw it on the bed, and that's exactly what he did, washing everywhere, but I spose I was part to blame as I did tell him to, just throw it on the bed :(
ReplyDeleteSo funny! Such a man/boy response to colour.....and the throwing too! Love all those shades, and love how Vanessa named each colour perfectly in her comment! You do choose the most beautiful yarns,Heather!
ReplyDeleteHelen x
That is so funny, I have 3 boys and they really do like to throw things. gorgeous wool. Love your blog. Carla
ReplyDeleteMy teenage son has always had a problem with gold and silver must be a boy thing and don't even get me started on the throwing thing!
