Originally an old pit village, Langley Park withs its small population, old fashioned ways and un-inviting characters, produced more than its fair share of legends: Bobby Robson- the famous football manager, a member of Prefab Sprout- the 80's rock band and Compass Caravans- a major producer of caravans in the UK. It has recently gained a status of obscurity when its prize asset of pleasant amenity land and greenspace in the valley that bounds it to the south was torn up so a poor excuse for a theme park called Diggerland, could move in.
It is a prime example of poor planning and marginalisation of 'salt of the earth' communities where surrounding landscapes are not valued and investment in the locality is limited.
