Gampaha District belongs the Western Province. Gampaha is separated from Colombo by mainly the Kelani River.
The word "Gampaha" is composed from "Gam", which means village and "paha", which means five - literally meaning "Five Villages". The five villages in the Gampaha city is Ihalagama, Pahalagama, Medagama, Aluthgama and Yagoda. Gampaha is most famous for the Botanical garden[1] where the first rubber tree was planted in Sri Lanka which still remains.
