The Villages at Western Oaks is a large neighborhood containing 5 subdivisions. There are over 1600 houses in an area encompassing more than 600 acres. Development in this area of Austin began in the mid-1990s and continued until 2005. The neighborhood has easy access to TX State Highway 1 (Loop 1), I-35, 290, and the Hill Country. VMO also provides easy access to many major roads including Escarpment Blvd, Slaughter Lane, Convict Hill, and more. Dick Nichols provides most of the amenities in this neighborhood. Although Mills Elementary is the only school located inside VMO, the neighborhood is located in a strategic location, where Bowie High School, Covington Middle School, Gorzycki Middle School, Small Middle School, Patton Elementary School, Kiker Elementary School, and Boone Elementary School are all located within a 1.5 mile radius from the VMO's boundaries.
