One of two official resting places of the crew of the battleship USS Maine (the other is at Arlington Natl. Cemetery) which exploded and sank in Havana Harbor.
As the closest U.S. city to the disaster, Key West received many of the most seriously wounded of the Maine's crew, and those that perished were buried here.
