Sark is also the setting for Mervyn Peake's comic novel 'Mr Pye'.

Peake was a gifted artist, illustrator (an excellent 'Treasure Island' amongst others) and author (notably the 'Gormenghast' books, as well as poetry).

Peake Moved to Sark in 1946 and lived there for four years.

Channel Four filmed 'Mr Pye' (starring Derek Jacobi) on the island, and broadcast the series in 1986.

  • I want to go there
  • As of today (14 April 2008), feudalism was officially abolished at Sark.
  • That's a shame. The notability of living in the last feudal state in the world is much more significant than an elected government for a 600 person town. Even without elections, the representation rate of 40 tenants for 600 inhabitants is far higher than most forms of "democracy".
  • Ver Interesting I wonder what it feels like to live in a feudal state :)
  • Imagine one day that your dog returns home with a cat on a leash, and the cat has a little mouse on a leash too. Let’s all imagine that, because it’s really, really cute when you think about it. Oh, before we forget, Sark is the mouse. Sark is a dependency of the Bailiwick of Guernsey (another place you know nothing about), which in turn is a dependency of England (which you might have heard of), which in turn is part of the United Kingdom (you might know it as UK), even though Guernsey and Sark are not part of the UK.
  • How is that different from anywhere else where National Government passes down policy to Provincial Government which passes down policy to local government.
  • Polygon!
  • Can we have greater focus for the Channel Islands? Can't see enough detail.
  • Fabulous little treasure of an island. An emerald patchwork quilt set on a silver sea.
  • First place named as a 'Dark-Sky' community. Yes! No Light Pollution there! I hope I can go to Sark Island. ü
  • last remnants of feudal life
