stadium, american football stadium

Rentschler Field is a football stadium in East Hartford, Connecticut. It is the home field of the University of Connecticut Huskies football team who plays in the Big East Conference. Since 2009 it has also been the home field of the New York Sentinels of the UFL. The stadium, designed by Ellerbe Becket, was constructed from 2000 to 2003 and cost $91,200,000. It replaced the on-campus Memorial Stadium in Storrs as the Huskies' home field. The stadium took its name from the airfield of the same name which was named after Frederick Brant Rentschler. The stadium's capacity is 40,000 and it also contains 38 luxury boxes. The playing field is made of Kentucky Bluegrass. It also hosts major concerts and international soccer and rugby union matches. The field is owned by the State of Connecticut and operated by Anschutz Entertainment Group, which replaced Madison Square Garden L.P. as operators in 2007.
