http://dom.spec.whatwg.org/#interface-document [[ The URL and documentURI attributes must return the URL. ]] I don't see how http://dom.spec.whatwg.org/#concept-document-url is linked to http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/dom.html#the-document's-address but they should be the same concept (since document.URL is affected by e.g. history.pushState).
I have the feeling this regressed in HTML somehow.
HTML says "The URL associated with a Document, as defined in the DOM specification, is referred to in this specification as the document's address".
Hmm. That would be easier to find if it was actually the definition of "the document's address".
Checked in as WHATWG revision r8402. Check-in comment: Clarify how 'document's address' links to DOM http://html5.org/tools/web-apps-tracker?from=8401&to=8402
