SPEC updates SPECjAppServer2004
to benefit open-source community
WARRENTON, Va., February 20, 2007 � The Standard Performance
Evaluation Corp. (SPEC) has released a new version of SPECjAppServer2004,
a multi-tier benchmark for measuring the performance of Java Platform
Enterprise Edition (Java EE) technology-based application servers.
The latest version introduces a reduced workload called EAStress2004
that relaxes run and reporting rules, enabling informal results to
be shared more easily in open-source research and development projects.
The EAStress2004 workload in SPECjAppServer2004 V1.08 can be used
as a tool to optimize performance of products under development and
to share results in public forums.� Unlike SPECjAppServer2004 results,
testing results from the EAStress2004 workload do not need to be
reviewed by SPEC prior to being made public.
"We�ve developed this new testing methodology in response to
requests for a tool that allows for public discussion of performance
results in experimental settings," says Ricardo Morin, chair
of the SPEC Java subcommittee. "We think this will be a valuable
asset for the development community, especially within open-source
environments."
Results from the EAStress2004 workload cannot be used for marketing
purposes, and comparisons to other SPECjAppServer2004 results are
not permitted.
SPECjAppServer2004 is a system benchmark that measures the performance
of Java EE application servers, including hardware, application server
software, JVM software, database software, JDBC drivers, and the
system network.� It was developed by SPEC's Java subcommittee, which
currently includes AMD, BEA, Borland, Darmstadt University of Technology,
Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Oracle, SAP, Sun Microsystems, and Sybase.
Available immediately
SPECjAppServer2004 V1.08 is available immediately from SPEC for $2,000
for retail customers and $250 for qualified non-profit and educational
organizations. Upgrades for current SPECjAppServer2004 license holders
are available from SPEC free of charge. More information is available
