SPEC releases new benchmark for Java EE 7 Web Profile application serversThe SPECjEnterprise2018 Web Profile benchmark reflects the architectural shift to lightweight applications and microservicesGAINESVILLE, Va., September 12, 2018 -- The Standard Performance Evaluation Corp. (SPEC) has released a new benchmark that measures the performance of Java EE 7 or later web profile application servers and supporting infrastructure. The workload consists of an end-to-end automotive insurance application that processes web requests. The SPECjEnterprise2018 Web Profile benchmark was developed by SPEC's Java subcommittee, which includes ARM, Dell, HPE, IBM, Inspur, Intel, Oracle and Red Hat. It is based on the Java EE 7 Web Profile specification and reflects the industry trend toward lightweight applications and microservices for building more flexible web applications. "Organizations are increasingly adopting a microservices architecture to speed web application development, deployment and testing," says Ståle Pedersen, the SPECjEnterprise release manager. "The SPECjEnterprise2018 Web Profile benchmark is a unique tool that can be used to evaluate a wide range of performance attributes for Java EE 7 Web Profile application server implementations." A full-system benchmarkThe SPECjEnterprise2018 Web Profile benchmark is a full-system benchmark, going beyond the Java EE 7 Web Profile application server to characterize performance for supporting infrastructure such as JVM, database, CPU, disk and network. Application servers tested with this benchmark must be compatible with the Web Profile subset of the complete Java EE 7 specification. The benchmark supports a range of deployment scenarios, including bare-metal, virtualized, and public or private cloud environments.
