ἐν δὲ
καιροῖς ἐπισφαλέσι τραχυνομένου τοῦ δήμου πρὸς αὐτὸν σφόδρα καὶ τῆς στρατηγίας εὐθύνας ἀπαιτοῦντος, ‘σωθείητε,’ εἶπεν, ‘ὦ μακάριοι, πρῶτον.’ ἐπεὶ δὲ πολεμοῦντες μὲν ἦσαν ταπεινοὶ καὶ περιδεεῖς, γενομένης δὲ εἰρήνης ἐθρασύνοντο καὶ κατεβόων τοῦ Φωκίωνος ὡς ἀφῃρημένου τὴν νίκην αὐτῶν, ‘εὐτυχεῖτε,’ εἶπεν, ‘ἔχοντες στρατηγὸν εἰδότα ὑμᾶς: ἐπεὶ πάλαι ἂν ἀπωλώλειτε.’
