HelenaLUG

Brief History

Ken Dyke founded the HelenaLUG March of 2006. Ken also founded the BozemanLUG Spring of 2001 when living in Bozeman. October 29th, 2007 Ken Dyke passed away as a result of cancer. The HelenaLUG will continue once again under Bodhi Zazen of Helena.

bodhi.zazen As I update this page I realize it has been a year now. It is nice to see the growth of the the Helena LUG and I believe awareness of Linux in Helena is growing.

Meetings are scheduled at the Helena Public Library in the Large Conference Room. The Helena Public Library seems best for now, they have wireless access available to us as well as a projector. If there is an interest in an alternate location ...

Meetups

Are there any planned meetings coming up?

No, Yes... uhm. IDK... YES!?

I doubt the group of mthackers counts.

We're all pretty stupid, but we use Linux! Primarily during our Friday cracking study group. Yeah, we're noobs... but I guess, to some degree, we all are. We don't do anything malicious and we have our own test network to play with. I'm really the only one who programs professionally. We rent out a spot of commercial property from the back of a used computer store. Average age of 30ish. Maybe less, now that we have a ten-year old. The problem with hackerspaces is finding neglegence in them is like finding hay in a haystack: It's just a matter of time before someone finds the needle.

I started using RH 7.3 (Valhalla)... or maybe enigma... I can't really grasp the memory(cheesiness intended)

But then I quit and I only got back into it because I was curious about BT... which IMO sucks... I don't know why people don't just use Ubuntu with BT packages. >.> wtv

I heard that someone was trying to get a LUG group together again. They had posted fliers outside and in the library.

As if I go outside... where the library is. I hear that place can often have intelligent women... What's not to be afraid of?!

Nate... or someone.. can't remember the last name. I've only been told of this by another mehmber. Anyways, I'm curious if you guys would like to help create and seriously grow a Helena Hackerspace.

Also tell your buddies that the Bozeman folk are trying to get something up and running too!

Great Meeting

I think this is going to be fun!

Couple of useful command line information links I've run across recently:
Command Reference PDF
Command Reference

And an online course for beginner and advanced users:
Linux.org Courses

I hope some find these useful, I did.

meetings

Sorry I missed the March meeting. somehow, I missed the announcement about the meeting. Please keep me posted.

I am having some serious challenges getting my Linux up and running. I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 7.04 and lost my internet connection.

Thank you

The Helena LUG was a success. Nice to see an interest in the Helena (and Butte) Area(s).

I generated a mailing list, if I missed you, drop me an email.

If it's not broken tweak it ... but remember if you break it you get to keep both pieces ;)
