dConstruct 2008 Social Network Portability
One of several microformats events.
Summary
Incredible progress has been made in the past year on social-network-portability, with the release of Google's Social Graph API to query the Web's XFN links, and numerous social network sites adopting hcard-supporting-user-profiles and hcard-xfn-supporting-friends-lists.
And yet, despite the fact that now most of the users of the social web have at least one hCard, there are still many sites continuing to burden users with social network fatigue, and subject users to social-network-anti-patterns.
This talk will cover today's state of the art with real world examples, and outline how we can do better, as well as providing a reminder of the pitfalls to avoid.
