Re: [nafex] Cornelian Cherry

Hi Pete

What you have is "Goumi"(Elaeagnus Multiflora). About
30years ago my Mother got a seedling plant from a
relative just east of Bush,La, near you and it too was
described as some sort of cherry. Normally the seed do
not germinate but one year and only one year since
that plant has been in production, dozens of seed did
come up under that plant. I obtained several and still
have one in my orchard north of Biloxi,Ms. and it has
been producing about 15 years but never a seed to
germinate from it. I took fruit and limbs to SFF
meetings and it was identified for me by Mr T.O.
Warren and others as "Goumi". The plant growth is
bushy much lihe an azelia and does not want to grow
with a main trunk like most trees.
