The 400th Missile Squadron at Francis E. Warren AFB, Wyo., has operated, maintained and secured the MX Peacekeeper ICBM since 1986.

Constituted 10th Reconnaissance Squadron (Heavy) on 28 Jan 1942. Activated on 15 Apr 1942. Redesignated: 400th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy) on 22 Apr 1942; 400th Bombardment Squadron, Heavy, on 6 Mar 1944. Inactivated on 27 Jan 1946. Redesignated 400th Strategic Missile Squadron (ICBM-Minuteman), and activated, on 10 Dec 1963. Organized on 1 Jul 1964. Redesignated 400th Missile Squadron on 1 Sep 1991.Combat in Southwest and Western Pacific, 15 Nov 1942-24 Jul 1945. Strategic missile operations, 1964-.
