Twentieth Air Force

Twentieth Air Force, located at F.E. Warren AFB, WY, operates and maintains AFSPC's ICBM weapon systems in support of U.S. Strategic Command war plans.

Twentieth Air Force operates, maintains and ensures the safety, security and combat readiness of the United States' ICBM force. It is responsible for the nation's ICBM force, including three operational space wings with more than 9,500 people.

Based at F.E. Warren AFB, WY, Twentieth Air Force reports to both Air Force Space Command and U.S. Strategic Command.

The mission of the Twentieth Air Force is be America's ICBM Team deterring conflict with professional people and ready secure missiles.

Missile combat crews perform around-the-clock alerts in underground launch control centers. These tro-person crews monitor the status of 500 Minuteman II and 50 Peacekeeped missiles scattered across 45,000 square miles in parts of Colorado, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wyoming.

The ICBM's are the United States' only on-alert strategic forces. Theses land missiles are part of the strategic TRIAD which also includes bombers and submarine launched ballistic missiles.

Twentieth air Force's major units include the 90th Space Wing at F.E. Warren AFB, WY; the 91st Space Wing, Minot AFB, ND; and teh 341st Space Wing, Malstrom AFB, MT.

Additionally, the 625th Space Operations Flight at Offutt AFB, NE, verifies missiles targeting, trains airborne launch control crews and, ensures strategic communication netweorks between the missile sites and national command auhtorities are operating.
