Anatoly Ivanovich Savin

It is extremely difficult to talk about the life and activities of a person whose name over six decades was a great state secret. Anatoly Ivanovich Savin (1920—2016) was an outstanding Soviet and Russian scientist, who during his lifetime was called the “godfather” of the Soviet “star wars” program.

He was designer in the field of global space information and control systems. He was a direct participant in the creation and production of technological equipment for the production of weapons-grade uranium and plutonium. In subsequent years, he was the developer of the integrated FSS system, the space-level missile defense missile system, as well as the system of naval and space intelligence and target designation of the Navy.

In the Great Patriotic War, he made significant contributions to the creation of the ZIS-S-53 cannon and anti-tank ZIS-2 cannon. On January 26, 1946, he was awarded the Stalin Prize. Savin was Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Sciences. Hero of Socialist Labor (1976), laureate of Leninist (1972) and State Prizes (1946, 1949, 1951, 1981, 1999), laureate of the State Prizes of the USSR, the Russian Federation and the Georgian SSR, holder of the Order for Services to the Fatherland, II and III degrees, laureate of the National Television Prize "Victory".

Anatoly Ivanovich was born on April 6, 1920 in the city of Ostashkov, Tver Province, in the family of an accountant. His childhood years were connected with the most beautiful Central Russian place - Lake Seliger. For the rest of his life, he retained the memory of the benevolence, respect and selflessness of the people here. From an early age he fell in love with fishing, swimming, skiing - he remained faithful for life for these hobbies. Of course, the times were not easy, but he always remembered them as a happy time, believing that it was the will of the boys of the 1920s and 1930s that was tempered in overcoming the difficulties.

He graduated from elementary school in his hometown, but soon after that he moved with his parents to Smolensk, where he graduated from the best secondary school with honors in the early 1930s. In 1937, A.I. Savin without entrance examinations enrolled in Moscow State Technical University named after N.E.Bauman, and in 1940 at the 3rd course after the reorganization of the structure of the university, he was enrolled in the department of artillery weapons.

To Anatoly Ivanovich, the statement that a talented person is talented in everything is fully applicable. So, his brush belong to many wonderful paintings. For many years he was fond of sports, preferring to broadcast television tennis, skiing and swimming.

At the end of a 2015 interview with Vladimir Gubarev, Anatoly Ivanovich said: “As a student, I read Engels. I even remember where it was. In Lefortovo, I had to take a certain item, and I read the following phrase: "The development of armaments does not lead to the denial of wars." And then it seemed to me wrong. I studied at the artillery department, and all my brains were busy only with how to make more weapons. It seemed to me that only it can provide peace. But gradually I realized that the classic is right. We are now in the period when his predictions come true. The development of weapons has reached its limit. The atomic bomb is the edge, the top of the weapon. And it is extremely dangerous. Obviously, it is impossible to go further along this path. ”

Anatoly Ivanovich Savin died on March 27, 2016. He was buried at the Troyekurovsky cemetery of Moscow. Expressing the words of condolences, the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Medvedev, said: “A man who is rightfully called a legend of the country's defense-industrial complex has died. A talented designer and organizer, academician Savin made a great contribution to ensuring national security. ”

In April 2017, a monument to A.I.Savin was opened on the territory of the Almaz-Antey air defense concern.
