Mali Navy

Mali is landlocked and has no navy or discernable riverine force.

The Niger River Delta is located in the Mopti region of central Mali. Thanks to some enhancement works, the center of Mali is well cultivated. Unfortunately, every year, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has to intervene with food aid because of the floods.

Between August and early October the National Directorate of Hydraulics, which closely follows the ups and downs of the river, stands ready to sound the alarm. More than 60,000 people are directly affected by the rising waters. Land losses, flooded country roads and river-side movements mean that the situation in central Mali is difficult to control by land forces and security services. The region of Gao as well as the west of Mopti and the east of Niger, is crossed by the river. It has four classified forests covering an area of ??4 020 ha. In the area is located the partial reserve of fauna Ansongo Menaka. A huge wealth.

The region of Gao has become, over the migratory movements, multi-ethnic. At the Valletta Summit in November 2015, while part of the global Sahel approach, the European Union launched the "« Programme d’appui au renforcement de la sécurité dans les régions de Mopti et de Gao [Program to support the strengthening of security in the regions of Mopti and Gao] (PARSEC). Resulting from consultations between the EU Delegation in Mali and the Government of Mali, with the support of the EUTM Mali and EUCAP Sahel Mali missions, PARSEC has been implemented by Expertise France for a period of 42 months and this in consultation with all technical and financial partners of Mali. The project is funded for 29 million euros by the EU.

PARSEC aims to contribute to the stabilization of the region in the center of Mali by improving the security of populations, the control of the territory and the management of cross-border spaces by the State services.

Aerial surveillance of the borders and land on the Niger River side, as well as strengthening of internal security is part of the project. A Cessna type aircraft will soon be implemented. EUTM Mali coordinates infrastructure issues and maintenance of the device. PARSEC aims to contribute to the stabilization of the region in the center of Mali by improving the security of populations, the control of the territory and the management of cross-border spaces by the State services.
