The Haplorrhini is a taxonomic suborder known also as the “dry-nosed” primate. The suborder Haplorrhini families consist of the Tarsiidae, Cebidae, Aotidae, Pitheciidae, Atelidae, Cercopithecidae, Hylobatidae, and the Hominidae.
Anatomy
The haplorrhini’s all have a bit of a different body structure.
- The tarsier is the smallest. It is about 6 inches long, with a 10 inch tail. It weighs about 4.5 oz. They have huge eyes, and are covered in brown fur. Their legs are pretty much specialized for climbing and jumping.
- Cebids normally have long limbs wit nails at the end of them. They are usually 6 1/2 to 33 pounds in weight. All of them in this family have long furred tails besides the uakaris.
