Golan Heights

The Golan Heights (Arabic: هضبة الجولان, Haḍbatu 'l-Jawlān; Hebrew: רמת הגולן, Ramat HaGolan) is a plateau in the northeast of Israel, border of Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. It is one of the territories captured by Israel during the Six-Day War in 1967. ^[1] In 1973, in the Yom Kippur War, Syrian forces launched a well-coordinated operation to invade the Golan Heights. After a tough fight, the Israel Defense Force (IDF) reversed the situation and recaptured the hills reaching about 50 kilometers (30 miles) from Damascus.^[2] The Golan Heights are still claimed by Syria.
