Adnan (Arabic: عدنان, ʻAdnān) is the traditional ancestor of the Adnani ("Arabized Arabs") of northern, central and western Arabia, as opposed to the Qahtani ("Pure Arabs") of southern and south eastern Arabia who descend from Qahtan. Adnan is said to be a descendant of Ishmael through his son Kedar. His descendants are said to have included the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
Adnan is a male name which means "settler". Adnan is still a common name for Arabs and Muslims.
The word Adnan is related to the word for paradise or Garden of Eden or Adam.
