Welcome to UserLand RSS Central, the place for all things RSS at UserLand Software. RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" and it is a dialect of XML that was created in the late 1990s to allow lists of information, known as "feeds", to be published by content producers and subscribed to by readers. The availability of an RSS news feed is usually indicated by the presence of a smaller version of the orange XML button shown at left.
UserLand has long been a leader in providing RSS solutions for personal and business users. Our products, Manila and Radio UserLand, both have integrated RSS syndication and aggregation tools and provide "turn-key" and extremely powerful RSS solutions for our customers. As a leader in RSS technology and applications, UserLand is always experimenting with new uses for RSS and we maintain a very active professional services group to assist customers in deploying RSS solutions.
RSS is rapidly gaining in popularity and use. Originally used by the authors of weblogs as a means to provide notice of and to syndicate new weblog posts, RSS is now being adopted by the mainstream media with hundreds of major publications using RSS 2.0 to syndicate their daily news features. While still in the process of becoming part of the mainstream, RSS is already a global phenomenon with early early adopters all over the world recognizing and utilizing RSS to attract readers and syndicate content. An RSS file is a simple structured list of headlines or article titles or events encoded so that it can be easily used by another program called a "news aggregator" or "news reader". These programs allow users to read headlines or events from dozens or hundreds of aggregated news sites at one time. To see aggregators collecting information on a variety of business topics, please take a look at our RSS Information Portals.
