So a few days ago post-engineering turned 10 years old! When we first started this blog, we didn't expect to grow this big, interviewing bands and be friends with a lot of them, making compilations and keep going for 10 years!
I want to thank all of our readers and of course all the bands and labels that submitted their music, featured on the blog and making this great course possible!
Hopefully in 10 years we'll be here celebrating again!
Happy New Year everyone! I hope all of your wishes become true in 2016!
2015 was a great year musically! I'm really struggling to narrow my list to just 20 bands! My TOP 20 will be posted soon, as well as the readers' poll!
I want to thank each and everyone of you for following my blog for 1 more year and liking, commenting, sharing and contributing music! A big thank you to all the bands participated on "The Inquisition", contributed their tracks for the compilation and submitted their music in 2015!
I also want to apologize again to all the bands I didn't had the time to listen to, but believe me, I'm just one person and trying my best!
Happy New Year and no matter what, don't stop listening to music!
This year's readers poll for the album of the year will be conducted in January 2016 and the results will be featured on February, so that every 2015 release can be included. Post-engineering's TOP20 will be revealed in January. Here you can submit your suggestions for the album of the year to be included on the poll!
Dark drone meets horror classic: “The Dunwich Orchestra” accompanies the horror comic picture show “The Colour Out Of Space” with musical gloominess. Slow-paced, gloomy and grave: This best describes “The Colour Out Of Space”, H.P. Lovecraft's short, cruel horror story which comics artist Andreas Hartung restages as a dark episodic picture show. “The Dunwich Orchestra” creates the atmospheric instrumental music to accompany Hartung’s illustrations: Their mixture of experimental and grave drone, americana and post-rock sounds is the perfect backdrop for this beautifully gloomy world of images.
“The Colour out of Space” is a forceful horror comic experiment full of darkness and devoid of words and acceleration.
The musicians crept through dark cellars, forests and across open fields to capture noises and sounds that embody the strange and menacing elements of nature. “The Dunwich Orchestra” uses modulated white noise to musically recreate humanity’s complete forsakenness in a merciless universe, a theme that is characteristic for Lovecraft’s stories. This noise incorporates every perceivable frequency from which the musicians carve ghostlike sounds as if they were creating wooden sculptures.
Realization
Hartung adapts the story in five parts which are between three and twelve minutes in length. Each chapter will be published online.
Syberia, the foursome from Barcelona playing instrumental rock from 2010, will soon start the adventure of recording their second studio album. After many months of work at the rehearsal room writing their new songs, they are now only a few weeks to go before all these new songs are captured on studio and they need your help to fund it!
I want to apologize to the bands that submit their music to Post-engineering and I don't have the time to listen to it and that I have to filter the submissions according to my personal taste. It doesn't mean that their music is not worthy or anything, it just doesn't fit my musical preferences. I'm only one person and I'm trying my best to update the blog, FB, Instagram and twitter account daily. Hopefully some day I'll manage to listen each and every one submission!
While most people know Scott from his work with his bands (Neurosis, Tribes Of Neurot, Corrections House, etc...), his most cherished role is that of a father and husband.
His wife, Sarah, woke up on Tuesday March 24th unable to walk or see. She was immediately admitted to Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, OR. As of today, (Sunday March 29th), the doctors are still not able to identify an exact diagnosis. Currently, her eyes have gotten significantly better but she is still not able to walk. She has begun rehabbing in the hospital, but it's slow going.
As he stays close to Sarah at this time, medical bills and every day living costs are building and he's financially struggling. So it's time for the music community to stand by the Neurosis founder, the band who influenced probably the whole genre.
Bright Like The Sun is a band from San Antonio, TX known for their affinity for dynamics and use of atmospheric soundscapes.
Finally, vinyl.
We all love vinyl records, the warmth and large scale artwork, the extra time it takes to functionally listen to a record as opposed to some playlist mindlessly shuffling on in the background. We wanted to put our last record out on vinyl, but alas, it's super expensive. That's where you come in.In order to assist in raising funds for a vinyl pressing, we are offering the record up for pre-order. In addition to the actual record, we are offering up a slew of other perks to help sweeten the proverbial pot.We have worked super hard on this album and can't wait to get it in your hands, just need a little help to get it there!
After some requests, I set up this store onSociety6with shirts, bags, clock etc with our new logo. Go to http://society6.com/post_engineeringand choose yours. I kept the prices to the minimum possible. I'm just going to be proud for the logo to be worn by other people!
Ølten is made up of 3 guys who love Werner Günthör, beards, checked shirts and old amplifiers. It’s basically a guitarist playing the bass, a bassist playing the guitar and a drummer playing the moog... After the success of their 1st EP in June 2013, the band is now keen to release a full album, which will be produced and recorded at the Studio Mécanique in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
Where is my money going?
It’s very simple, you pre-order our album in the format of your choice to help us finance the costs of vinyl and CD pressing, mixing, mastering and graphic design. As well as receiving a beautiful object, you can also choose to spend some time with us or just look sexy in your new underwear and socks!
What happens next?
After being recorded and mixed by Julien Fehlmann at the Studio Mécanique in La-Chaux-de-Fonds, the album will spend some quality time in the skilled hands of Magnus Lindberg (sound engineer and Cult of Luna’s drummer) for mastering. Mr Tomas Liljedahl from The Old Wind and Breach will be lending us his voice for one track. The packaging will be crafted by talented graphic designer Laurent Güdel. Release planned in March 2015 by Hummus Records and Division Records.
So it's this time of the year again! We will have a poll about this year's TOP 20! But first please suggest which albums should be included in the poll...
GOOD NEWS & BAD NEWS...tend to go hand in hand. Today we have to share exactly this match of news to you. As people tend to keep it in real life we'll start with the good news:
For some time now we've been working in the Lunarcity Studio (Darmstadt) with our friend and producer Lari Eiden on the follow up to 2012th 'Funeral Mouth'. The songs have been in the making for a while, developed and grew to a point where we said it's time to lay the tracks down. We're around 50% done. Its not possible to say exactly how much more time we will need to finish everything, but to look for a release in spring of 2015 seems legitimate. So far, we're satisfied with the results and the record heads in a slightly different direction from our previous material. Since we were more than satisfied with Timo's work and are also good friends with him, the album will yet again be released by Golden Antenna Records.
Unfortunately, and this is the part with the bad news, Planks won't be a functional band by the time of this initial release in 2015. After long talks we decided it's time to call it quits. It's merely an issue of time and energy. Private life, geographical distances and especially an almost unbearable workload besides the band took a toll and made us realize that it's too hard to keep this band alive without sacrificing too much of our everyday life. The impossibility to play shows further away, tour or answer to the many great show offers we get from around the globe furthered the feeling we should maybe stop right here, right now.
All in all we are grateful for everything we were able to do as such a tiny DIY band in the eight year's of our existence and want to say thanks especially to all the people that supported us. We will write a bigger post on this topic as the end draws close. We decided to call it quits at the end of this year, as in January the work situation will change for one of us yet again. This leaves four final shows for this year and possibly forever (...you never know).
All four shows are with bands we feel closely related to. In November we're looking forward to a weekend with our good friends in SVFFER, visiting Bielefeld and Leipzig, where we will also meet the lovely FINISTERRE and SHIT SHIFTER. This goes down Nov. 21st and 22nd.The last weekend we'll visit Ralph's hometown of choice Cologne at Privat with our dear friends ORTEGA from the Netherlands and PARAMNESIA from France on December 12th.
The last show will be on Saturday, Dec.13th in the very place where everything started: The JUZ in Mannheim. This is where Ralph met Frank, where Benny and Ralph talked about starting this band, where we had the first rehearsals, practise for two years, played our first show (with The World/Inferno Friendship Society, in early 2007), were involved in setting up shows, played with many great bands and which is run by people we like. Thats why, all things considered, Decembers installment of the WIR SIND DIE TOTEN festival seems like the perfect 'Final Show', as it features many bands and people we've shared good memories with.
At some point this had to come to an end we're sorry that it happens so unexpected, so soon and that the new record won't be out before that. We hope to see a lot of you nice people and close friends, that kept and keep on supporting us for the many year's being, at the final show in Mannheim.
Hello everyone. This is Jay, Ryan, Seamus, Jane, and Pat and together we play in a band called OWEL.
It's been about 2 years since we started working together and since then, we've released a full length record which you can find on iTunes and Spotify,
We've had the pleasure of sharing the stage with artists like Minus the Bear, Casey Crescenzo from The Dear Hunter, EMA, Foxing, Penfold, and American Authors.
We've also gotten amazing reviews and write-ups from blogs like Pitchfork, Stereogum, Grantland, Absolute Punk, and NPR.
Needless to say, so far we've been pretty lucky. But still, there's so much more music that we'd like for you to hear. Since the release of our full length record, we have been writing new songs that we are super proud of and are eager to release.
This is where you come in.
With your help, we could have the funding to get into the studio and record these songs. If all goes well, we will be working with the one and only Mike Watts who's produced bands like As Tall As Lions and The Dear Hunter. Not only that, but we will be releasing a kick ass music video for one of these songs.
Record labels can be great and do a lot for bands (like lets say…. fund a record), but the wrong label can ruin one. Now if you've been in bands or you've been in the music industry, we're sure most of you can think of someone who's had their record shelved by some major label. These artists pour their hearts into their songs only to find out that in the end, the label didn't see them as being marketable or relevant. As a result, a lot of these songs go unreleased and unheard. That kind of sucks.
But that's the beauty of a campaign like this one. You as the listener can choose to believe in the artist and be an essential part of their success. After all, It's you who we want to share our music with. It's you who we want to move, and it's you who has helped us come this far.
If you check out our perks and Indie Gogo exclusives, you can see we've got some pretty cool prizes depending on how much you decide to contribute. Any help you can extend will be accepted with huge gratitude and will go a long way.
We've been lucky to have such amazing fans and friends, but we'd like for you to be a part of this band in a whole new way.
Understandably, we know not everyone has money to contribute, but this doesn't mean you can't help! Here are some ways you can still show your support:
Please help get the word out to your friends. Sharing is caring. Facebook, Twitter, E-mail, telegrams via ravens, etc.
Come to our shows, give us hugs, cheer us on. It keeps us going!
As always, thank you for your support and for listening.
"It's been a long time since our last release, but we are excited to announce that we are finalizing our second album The Madrean -- an eight-song instrumental story, each with an individual visual, of the Madrean Region of the American Southwest." - Whale Fall
The Madrean will be released later this fall on digital followed by vinyl.
Here you can hear two of the new tracks, accompanied by it's artwork:
Whale Fall is an instrumental rock band based in Los Angeles, California. Formed in 2008, the five member group, whose name derives from the biologic process by which a decaying whale carcass spawns a new sea life community, quickly established a dedicated fan base who embraced the band's dynamic live sound, leading to the recording of their eponymous debut album, a vinyl double LP self-released in 2011. In addition to live performances, recordings, and an expanding online presence, the group's music is reaching new audiences with the inclusion of two Whale Fall tracks in the award-winning documentary Code Black, currently in wide release. This cinematic foray complements the numerous soundtrack credits attributable to the fivesome’s past projects, including The X-Files, Kiss of Death (1995), Up in the Air (2009), promotional trailers for The Help (2011), and several independent films.
Whale Fall's sound stems from a wide range of musical influences, from shoegaze to experimental rock to Ennio Morricone cinematic fare to the echoes of border town Americana replete with mariachi horns. Add to this mix the visuo-narrative influences of the group's external surroundings in the American West, the cultural milieu of Los Angeles, and the internal landscapes of their individual imaginations. This is the very concoction that gave rise to the band's second album, titled The Madrean, a collection of eight thematically linked compositions paying homage to the Madrean region of North America, the arid landmass spanning the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. With band members having spent their respective formative years in Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and California, the Madrean Region is an inescapable internal and external space for Whale Fall, and the intersection of its urban and natural environs—from L.A. freeway overpasses to majestic Sierra peaks—serve as both the backdrop and the foreground of the music of The Madrean as well as the accompanying visual imagery.
On this, Whale Fall's sophomore offering, the band's live ensemble of traditional rock instrumentation augmented by trumpet and piano is further expanded with the addition of saxophone and cello. The interplay between Ali Vazin's ethereal guitar swells and Dave Pomeranz's raw six-string tones suggests the vast desert sky overhanging stark and rugged terrain, with J-Matt Greenberg's trumpet and keyboard flourishes providing the flora and fauna, all supported by the tectonic framework of Erik Tokle's gliding bass and Aaron Farinelli's foundational percussion. Guest instrumentalists Joseph Santa Maria on saxophone and Artyom Manukyan on cello conjure the few rivers and streams that course through this arid landscape. Recorded and mixed alongside the taco trucks and bodegas of Highland Park in northeast Los Angeles, the music of The Madrean centers its urban origins in an awareness of its encapsulation between the Pacific Ocean and San Gabriel Mountains. This sonically invoked imagery is visually reinforced by the beautiful artwork created by Emmy award-winning designer Jordan Wayne Lee. Whale Fall is very proud to present this new incarnation of a timeless character, The Madrean, to both the denizens of the Madrean Region and the world at large.
Special thanx to the band for allowing me to post the private links to stream the 2 tracks.
My name is Justin Jackson and I am a working professional in the film industry. For the past three years I have been independently producing, financing, and directing Rosetta: Audio/Visual, a feature length documentary.
I have directed short films that have been featured in festivals throughout the United States. I've worked for Samsung, MTV, and have freelanced on commercials for Nickelodeon. I work a day job as a media production coordinator in order to be able to make independent films. My personal website is: www.vol4.com.
Why I Chose to Make a Film About Rosetta
I became aware of Rosetta's music and was immediately blown away by their material upon first listen. After visiting the band's website I noticed they had an email address listed. I sent Rosetta an email and stated I wanted to make a short portrait of the band. Halfway into production I realized I had much more than a documentary short profiling the group. There was a real story along with rich subplots set against the backdrop of Philadelphia. I found that not only were the band members great musicians but they were genuine, engaging, and complex. When I learned they have to work day jobs to support their music it really resonated with me. I wanted to convey the struggles musicians go through in order to express themselves through their craft. Through this film I learned that each member of Rosetta tirelessly pursues moments of joy and catharsis no matter the strain it places on their daily lives.
About the Film
After being on their record label for ten years, Rosetta decides to self-finance and self-distribute their next album, "The Anaesthete,” and the future of the band hinges on the album's results. Featuring: Rosetta, Drew Juergens and Christian McKenna from Translation Loss Records, Eduardo Rivadavia of All Music, Eric Jernigan from City of Ships, illustrator Mike Wohlberg, Jesse Yanniell, Andrew Schneider, and Sean Ingram of Coalesce.
Original score by Rosetta.
What Makes This Film Unique
As a way of honoring the spirit of Rosetta and the artists who have deeply inspired me, this film will be distributed directly to viewers and fans through a pay-what-you-wish digital format. There will be no set price. Fans and Viewers can pay as much or as little as they want. This distribution method makes “Rosetta: Audio/Visual” a blue-collar, independent, do-it-yourself film.
This is really difficult to write, but here it goes... we are very sorry to announce that we have decided to call it quits as a band due to personal issues. Unfortunately, that means we are dropping off the Captives / Keyes tour. We also were planning a 7" split with Captives to be released later this year. We are not sure if anybody would still be interested in hearing those songs, but we may still record them... maybe not... it's up in the air right now.
We want to take the time to say THANK YOU to all of you for caring about this band over the past few years. We are forever grateful for all of your love and support. We would be nothing without all of you. Our music is free at www.ofusgiants.com and you can pick up any of our leftover merch at www.ronaldrecords.com. All orders are shipping soon. We also want to thank all of the record labels that have taken a chance on our music and have released it for us: Songs From The Road Records / Driftwood Records / Fly the Light Records / Close To Home Records / Little League Records / Mutt Tapes.
Last but not least, thank you to everybody that has been a member of the band over the past few years. We have had the privilege of working with some amazing people/musicians.
Dear friends, what I have to write today, makes all Omega Massif members sad and sick at the same time, but sometimes things develop and sometimes good things end. Omega Massif is done.
We want to thank everyone who supported us during the last nine years! All the fans, bookers and of course all our labels, who did a great job for us. A special thanks goes out to DENOVALI, who did their best to help us with our stuff during the last years. Thank you TIMO and THOMAS.
Stay tuned for our last song, a cover version of "Don't Bring Me Flowers" on the upcoming GODFLESH tribute sampler on FOBOBILE RECORDS "Fathers Of Our Flesh". Look out for upcoming bands with Omega Massif members. Very soon. Via this FB-account.
There also will be ONE LAST GOODBYE-SHOW. You will be informed about the "when and where" HERE.
EDIT: the goodbye-show will be the only show we'll be playing. All other shows are cancelled. Sorry. This Sucks. We Know.
