Nathan’s leader month plus a few friends (395 points)

Ah the finish line is in sight. This month I did my army leader and finished off the rest of the witch elves. A pretty meagre haul to be honest so in June I’m going to paint up the remaining cold one cavalry plus my cold one chariot. Anyway here is the points value of my May figures:

- 1 Witherwitch (Level 20 wizard) on cold one with hand weapon - 325 points

- 5 witch elves with light armor with two hand weapons and poisoned attacks - 70 points

Here they are:

Pokrzyw's Druchii - Month 3 - Rank & File - Lizards & Swords (1033pts)

"Cold Ones are ancient reptiles that live in the dark caves and tunnels in the mountains underneath Hag Graef. They are extremely stubborn beasts, and not at all intelligent ... "

Plans for March:
After painting the most of infantry I plan for March less miniatures, but more elite. I try to break typical schema of green cold-ones.

Primary:
  • 4 cold one knights with fcg (228) + champion (74)
  • general on cold one (lance, xbow, shield, h.armour) (179)

Secondary:
  • sorceress on cold one (72)
  • 9 dark elf warriors (shields,fcg) (121) + champion (52)

Bonus:
  • hero on manticore (lance, light armour) (307)

Realisation:

I have really big motivation lag after crazy last month. In first week I painted sorceress that gave me a lot of fun. Second week was manticore as I tried not to touch units... All remaining models was finished in last week.

I'm really happy that there is no infantry to paint.

Final Gallery:

Army

General and sorceress - old cold one's are the best!!

Banner..

I like lizards scheme

 6th edition manticore

swordmans

The best mini in the army. I love that vibe.

Pokrzyw's Druchii - OWAC VII introduction

"In the far north lies the realm of the Witch King of Nagaroth. The bleak and frozen Land of Chill. Here are the cities of the Dark Elves, battlements of black stone and high towers rising like cruel spears into the pale sky. The Witch King rules over all the cold mountains and dark forests with an unbending will of iron. Dark Lords and their mighty armies are his to command. Sorcerers hasten to his call. Pale and beautiful Witch Elves dance their deadly rites before his throne as they keen the battle songs of their bloody master."

Hello everyone. Two years ago I've prepared 4th edition  High Elves army - painted in bright vibrant colours. Full of joy and happiness. This year I will prepare their dark brothers from far north - druchii. Picture from Battle Book (5ed) and cover from DE army book is the best that we may found in fantasy - girls, dinosaurs and lasers lightnings - whatever is important for teenager (I had 15 years old when I saw it). Let's realise that dream - Let's release lust,  and bring pain, malice and blood to the enemies!

I've prepared quite big army - over 100 miniatures (still waiting for some occassion ;) ), and I similar to OWAC V I plan to split it on primary and secondary objectives for each month. If there will be occassion to paint them all - it would be great. If only primary will be painted, it would be solid base for dark elves army.

List of miniatures:

  • sorceress on cold one
  • general on cold one
  • sorcerer on foot
  • morathi on foot
  • malekith on chariot (gamezone miniatures dark elf chariot conversion).
  • 5 cold one knights
  • 12 dark riders
  • 22 witches
  • couldron of blood
  • 25 spearmens
  • 22 xbowmans
  • 10 swordmans
  • 2 assassins
  • hydra
  • 3+ repeater bolt thrower

It shall be about 3600pts (without magic items). I create army list during challenge.

The Plan:
Rank & File 1 (Witches!!)

primary:

  • 12 witch elves with banner (156)
  • couldron of blood (125)

secondary:

  • 10 witch elves (120)
  • sorcerer (59)

Rank & File 2 (City guards)

primary:

  • 10 city guards ( 5 spears +5 xbows) (130)
  • 10 city guards ( 5 spears +5 xbows) (130)

secondary:

  • 11 xbowmans fcg (169) + champion (53)
  • 14 spearmans (399) + champion (52)

Rank & File 3 (Heavy cavalry)

primary:

  • 4 cold one knights fcg (228) + champion (74)
  • general on cold one (lance, xbow, shield, h.armour) (179)

secondary:

  • sorceress on cold one (xbow) (72) - would be stripped..
  • 9 dark elf warriors fcg (shields) (121) + champion (52)

Rank & File 4 (artillery & scouts)

primary:

  • 3 repeater bolt throwers (300)
  • 5 dark riders fcg(231) + champion (57)

secondary:

  • 6 dark riders (198)

Monster

primary:

  • warhydra (225)

secondary:

  • morathi on foot (327)

Wild Card

primary:

  • Malekith on chariot (or dragon) or 6ed manticore.. (440)

secondary:

  • whatever remains

I have already small army for 6 edition. I will keep blue with dark iron scheme.

It would be really hard to paint it all, but the hope dies last in the land of chill..

Ratwig's OWAC VI Opening Post: WAB Age of Arthur

Greetings folks! and welcome to my version of OWAC VI. This year's slave sent to the overlord is the one that would have gone last year if I could have just managed to paint him in time for the start of OWAC V. Anyway, I give you Mox Mon on a Cold One, whose brother Mox Mox, from OWAC IV, got him volun-told to go to the land of chill and serve the witch king. Mox Mon has even painted the overlord's colors on his shield.

This year, the overlord said we could do GW side projects, which included Warhammer Ancient Battles. I have had an unpainted Romano-British Civitate, Twilight of Britannia army for the "The Age of Arthur" supplement sitting around for a long time and so, since I'm taking a break from Dark Elves for a while, here we go. The army will be around 1500 points as that is what is called for in the supplement. I'm breaking it down into submissions as I plan to paint the prepared figs first and scramble later when trying to assemble the figs for later submissions. In order of planned submission, here goes:

31 x Pedyt led by a Decurio, with full command, and large shields: 255 points total

23 x Geoguth led by an Atheling with full command and throwing spears: 298 points total

17 x Milites led by a Tribune with full command, javelins, large shields and light armor: 345 points total

The next two units and the command figures are located in this pile of Late Roman cavalry.

They consist of:

     Command:

1 x Dux, Army Commander, mounted with shield, light armor, javelins and throwing spear - 204 points

1 x Tribune, Army Standard Bearer, mounted with shield, light armor, javelins - 160 points

10 x Commanipulares guard cavalry, with full command - 265 points

11 x Equites light cavalry, with full command - 202 points

There you have it, my planned insanity for the next six months or so...

Off to find some Jack to get this shindig rolling!

Ratwig's OWAC Command Submission (200 points)

This is my Command submission for OWAC IV. Mox Mox is a level 20 Hero mounted on a cold one. He has been modified by cutting off his head, removing the face from the helmet and re-attaching the helmet so that it is now in the fully forward position instead of the pushed back so you can see his face position. I like how it turned out. Mox Mox is carrying a Gripping Beast shield. The cold one also received a replacement head with the mouth open instead of the closed mouth one originally on the fig.

1 x Level 20 Dark Elf Hero - (168 points base)- Total: 194                                                                                                Equipment:  Hand weapon, Heavy armor (+3), Shield (+1), Cold One (+22)

Mox Mox was promoted to contingent commander after I realized that I would not be able to complete the troops I was painting for my last rank and file submission due to work insanity. The only way I could avoid ending up in the field of bones!

I need a Jack or six now...

Quin’s Lizardmen of the Black Marsh - The Holy Ruler (292 Points)

 <Leader Month>

Ioth Ssissith

The brood king looks down from his throne of gold and velvet upon the throng of lizards amassed before him on this day,

“I want to tell you 'bout Chaos Waste radio and the big beat

Comes out of the Lustrian swamps

Cool and slow with plenty of precision

With a back beat narrow and hard to master. Some call it heavenly in its brilliance

Others, mean and rueful of the Western dream.

I love the friends I have gathered together on this thin raft

We have constructed pyramids in honor of our escaping

This is the land where the Pharaoh died.”

With the inspiring words of the brood king resonating in the earholes of every lizard they marched triumphantly on, carving their path of destruction, led by the Holy Ruler of Umbraxakar’s army, Ioth Ssissith.

This month I decided to take a break from my rank & file and work on a larger model. The mount for my general is another Tom Meier sculpt from Ral Partha. I was able to clip the rider up a bit to make his pose work, and I think it turned out well! Since I’ve got quite a bit of this month remaining I’m planning on using my “free” time to convert some extra lizards into musicians & standard bearers.

Point Values:

Ratwig's Dark Elf Helldrakes - (318 pts)

Rank & File Entry #1

For my first rank and file entry for this challenge, I present a unit of six Helldrakes with standard and musician, led by a Level 5 Hero. Yeah, I know, I changed out the leader from my initial post, as I felt the Level 5 leader better represented a Dark Elf from a unit of Helldrakes. Specifics:

6 x Helldrakes with Level 5 hero with hand weapon, light armor and shield: 313 points total

Since Helldrakes are supposed to be inexperienced Cold One operators with a reduced (I) initiative, I used a preslotta Cold One leader as they tend to be smaller, representing a youngster whose family ties got him the job as unit leader. I also assumed the Cold Ones were young and made their tails blue which is a trait of young skinks from the US south east that I used to chase as a youngster. Their tails turn black or dark gray as they get older. I went with a greenish gray main color and a yellowish tan color for their bellies in addition to their blue tails.

The standard was made from brass rod with copper wire wrapping at the top, a plastic skull on top and a heavy art paper flag. I tried to paint folds in the flag like ones I have seen on another person's work, but not sure if I'll do that again as it isn't as pretty as his. This figure was chosen for conversion as he was my only duplicate model in the unit.

The musician was converted from a model with a crossbow. Since I wasn’t arming these with crossbows, I cut it off and replaced it with a plastic horn from the old plastic Dark Elf box set.

The remaining troops were made stock. It took me a while to settle on a shield pattern and finally settled on the spade outlined in white, which was on a shield in the Dark Elf section of the Warhammer Armies book.

And that is my entry for January 2021.

Off to locate that bottle of Jack to self medicate against the zombie plague…
