WB. Here is the fifth of seven images of aerial photos by unidentified photographers that were taken over Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1946. Pictured at the top right are some of the Pennsylvania Railroad's 12th Street Car Shops. A little to the left, a steam locomotive is pulling a westbound freight train under the 12th Street Footbridge. At the Altoona Station, a steam-powered passenger train is about to begin climbing the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Johnstown and points West. The U.S. Post Office sits where the Logan House once reigned. The large structure at the far left is the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. William E. Burket Collection. |
