Farm Chicks

My husband and I took a trip up to Spokane for the weekend.  I have been to Spokane before, but this was our first trip together.  The weather could not have been nicer and the scenery, with all the different trees, any more beautiful.  We spent part of the day on Friday in downtown Spokane at Riverfront Park (the river runs right through the city).  We even rode the gondola.  I'm not a fan of gondola rides (the swinging bucket gets me), but I decided to ride it anyway - this ride is minor compared to the the one I rode in Brazil going to Sugarloaf mountain.  Minor.

So down the hill we went...
And then beside the falls - you never cross over the really rough part so it was a lot less scary than I thought it would be.
The bridge over the water is beautiful.  Really majestic.
It was only about a 20 minute ride and that is just because you are stopped along the way.  So...short, sweet and the bucket didn't crash to the ground.  A good day all around.
Here is the real reason for flying to Spokane.
Farm Chicks.
I have been here before, probably 4 or 5 years ago.
Really good show, lots to choose from.  If I had been in a car, I would have taken home a few furniture pieces, but we're on a plane so that is out of the question.
The show had a little bit of everything.
From industrial to homemade.
It also had crowds (not surprising).
Saturday morning being the largest of course.  I always want to be the first one in the building.  To do that at this show, you would have to get in line at least 2 hours before opening (we waiting 1 hour and 15).

Porcupine quill anyone?
How about roller skates?
Boy, that brings back some memories...I was lucky enough to go to a high school that was right across from the roller rink so we could choose to take roller skating for PE, how sweet is that?  Best PE EVER.

These stag heads were in a booth called Wood & Wool.  They were about $800 a piece, made with patterned wool and real antlers.  Amazingly lifelike in appearance.
a

The tops of old trophies.  Need a bowler, sharpshooter, or a baseball player?
A shot of Lisa Souers booth - she always has great stuff in Spokane (more than her great jewelry) since she is from Washington.  There were so many people in her booth though, that this was as good of a shot as I could get.  You are just going to have to imagine the rest!
Boots...
and more boots.
And fresh flowers everywhere!
Magnificent Peonies...

One of my favorite booths at the show, The Rusty Clover is owned by Katy Halligan.  I know Katy since she also sells at the Remnants of the Past Show, which used to be local to me.  I always seem to find something in Katy's booth - even if it is just inspiration from her beautiful displays.

Loved this whole display with all the Frozen Charlotte dolls.

Moving on...How about this for storage...$2800
This booth of old quilt pieces, tablecloths, and linens is always in the center of the show.  And it looks like this the entire show.  People digging, and digging to find a treasure!
Love this idea of an old bicycle tire used as a "memo board" of sorts.
These are the lockers I posted on Instagram during the show - seems that everyone loved them!  No, they did not come home with me, but I wish they would have.  The color of cream and green was perfect.

Big Letters were everywhere at this show.

How about little bloomers for babies/toddlers?
I love the wood of old rolling pins.
A chandelier made for pressed glass punch cups.
Oh, I really wanted 3 of these these juggling pins - just the right color for my house.  But at $48 each they stayed with the seller.

Where did I spend the most money?  In Cori Dantini's booth.  It is no secret that I love Cori's work.  Her originals feel so delicate, with their soft muted colors and precise pen work over a vintage paper background.  I also love that she leaves some of her original pencil work in the background.  You can see more of Cori's work in her Etsy shop here.
One fun thing they did at this show was print free Instagram photos.  If you Instagramed a photo during the show with the #thefarmchicks hashtag, they printed the picture for you to pick up later.  Clever.

So, what did I buy?
Mostly little things since I went to the show in an airplane.  I love the part when you come home and unpack the stuff you bought and realize how much you still like it!

A little striped suitcase with a great handle.
More little black leather books to add to my collection.
I am always on the hunt for large group photos - only found a couple in the whole show - no frame on this one (boo), but at least it is a really nice photo...love when they are really close to the camera and in this one they are holding a school banner.
Had to get this sign.
I think it's going in the hallway.
Millinery flowers (loved the color) and old grosgrain ribbon....

I also found some of the yellow flowers I was lamenting that I did not buy more of in this post.
I have a plan for the moulded lace (it is in the shape of a cup)...just have to see if it works out now.  The little white plastic dog was a must have!
And this little guy (4 x 5") is going to a friend.  Hand painted - couldn't leave him behind in the Rusty Clover booth.

 GIVEAWAY
I brought home a few thing to do a give away on the blog today.  First is a pack of ephemera that includes 5 or 6 sheets of vintage wallpaper, vintage handwritten receipts, and a tiny tin type in a pretty frame.  I also picked up Farm Chicks pencils and a Farm Chicks flair button.
The pencils say:
She loves her family
She's farmgirl meets 5th avenue
She laughs a lot
And with her little pencil she will change the world
She's a girl who sees the world through rose colored glasses
If you would like to with this Farm Chick prize pack, just leave a comment on today's post and I will pick a winner on Friday, June 13.  Good luck to all!
carry on,
paula
