In life the shell are lined by a specialized tissue called the (mantle) wich produces and elarges the shell by secreting new shell material at the free edge.The soft body inside the shell includes a musculor food gills (or cetenidia ,used for respiration and feeding,muscle,a digestive system,nerves, a 3 chambered heart and an open circulatory system(with sinuses) Some species,such like the hard-shell here,have siphons for directing water flow in and out the body chamber.
