CD1 (01-07) "Once Upon A Time": Johnny Hodges (alto sax), Earl Hines (piano), Ray Nance, Cat Anderson (trumpets), Lawrence Brown, Buster Cooper (trombones), Russell Procope (alto sax), Jimmy Hamilton (tenor sax, clarinet), Paul Gonsalves, Harold Ashby (tenor sax), Richard Davis (bass), Sonny Greer (drums). Aaron Bell (bass) replaces Richard Davis on 02 & 07. Elvin Jones (drums) replaces Greer on 01,05 & 06, Pee Wee Russell (clarinet) added on 02,05,06 & 07. 03 is a quartet performance by Hamilton (clarinet), Hines, Bell & Greer. Ray Nance out on 07. Hodges, Procope & Ashby out on 05-06. Clark Terry & Bill Berry (trumpets) added on 01 only. Recorded in New York, January 10 (01,04) & January 11 (02,03,05-07), 1966.
CD1 (08-16) "Stride Right": Johnny Hodges (alto sax), Earl Hines (piano), Kenny Burrell (guitar), Richard Davis (bass), Joe Marshall (drums), Hines also plays organ on some tracks. Recorded in New York, January 14, 1966.
CD2 (01-10) "Swing's Our Thing": Johnny Hodges (alto sax), Earl Hines (piano), Cat Anderson (trumpet), Buster Cooper (trombone), Jimmy Hamilton (clarinet, tenor sax), Jeff Castleman (bass), Sam Woodyard (drums). Recorded at Coast Recorders Inc., San Francisco, November 14 (02-06) & November 15 (01,07-10), 1967.
CD2 (11-18) Johnny Hodges (alto sax), Earl Hines (piano), Ray Nance (trumpet, violin on 12,18), Flip Phillips (tenor sax), AI Casey (guitar), Oscar Pettiford (bass), Sidney Catlett (drums), Betty Roche (vocal on 11,13,14,16). Recorded at New York, April 26, 1944.
