d.i.y. houndstooth printed sunglasses

Graphic black and white prints popped up everywhere on the Spring 2014 runways. Here's a fun little Duck Tape D.I.Y. to upgrade your sunglasses and help you embrace the trend in a subtler way (best part is - it all peels away easily so you can switch up your prints each season!)

Repeat the above process a few times along each arm - keep wrapping and snipping (and try to match up the print where you can!). Et voilĂ ! Houndstoothed.

Will you be giving this a go?! We'd love to see! Show us your D.I.Y.'s on Instagram with #SorelleDIY

d.i.y. monogrammed laptop case

Continuing on in our pursuit of prettiness, I set my sights on my laptop, which was looking a little bare. I decided to glam it up a bit with some of our favorite things: monograms, pictures of some of our favorite people, and glitter! Here's a super simple guide to make one yourself:

What You'll Need: A clear snap-on laptop case, a monogram decal, Duck Glitter Tape, a picture collage (use actual pictures, or make one on your computer and print one out - measure your laptop screen beforehand and keep the collage within those dimensions), tape, and scissors

Step 1: Tape together your picture collage if needed.

Step 2: Stick the monogram decal to the center of your picture collage
(center it before sticking it to ensure proper placement!)

Step 3: Using the glitter tape, place the picture collage picture-side down inside the laptop case. Tape around the border of the picture collage, letting the tape curl under the rounded edges of the laptop case, and trimming it to fit where needed.

That's it! Snap the case on and enjoy!

d.i.y. glitter tray

Lately we’ve been obsessing over pretty new ways to display our prettiest things (blame it on Pinterest). Why hide our favorite baubles away in jewelry boxes when we can artfully showcase them on a glittery tray? In a D.I.Y. with all the sparkle and none of the messy, glitter-for-days aftermath, we’ll show you how to craft your very own glitter jewelry tray in a few simple steps.

What You’ll Need: A plastic/lucite tray, Duck glitter tape, a marker, scissors, and parchment paper

Step 1: Place the tray on the parchment paper and trace around the bottom of it.

Step 2: Flip the parchment paper over and tape strips of the glitter tape within the traced area.

Step 3: Flip the parchment paper over again (glitter side down) and cut within the traced lines.

Step 4: Working carefully, peel one strip of glitter tape at a time off of the parchment paper and stick it to the bottom of the tray. Try to get each strip as close as possible to the other without overlapping them.

Then, fill it with your favorite jewels!

d.i.y. spiked ear cuff

The fall 2013 runways had all eyes above the neck as ear cuffs emerged as a fresh new way to accessorize. And if the spring collections are any indication, our lobes will continue to enjoy the spotlight next season, too! The perfect solution for the piercing-shy, ear cuffs are the easiest way to add some temporary edge to your look. Here’s how to D.I.Y. your own metal-heavy version to rock now and wear through spring.

What You’ll Need: 16 gauge aluminum wire, spike beads, two paper plates, two sponges, heavy duty epoxy, a pencil, and needle nose pliers

Step 1: Using the pliers, cut a piece of wire so that it’s long enough to wrap around your ear, plus a few extra inches.

Step 2: Thread the spike beads onto the wire, closing off one end of the wire while you work.

Step 3: Place the two sponges on the paper plate and “poke” each end of the wire into each sponge to anchor them, allowing the spikes to hang upside-down.

Step 4: Following package directions, prepare the epoxy on the other paper plate, mixing it together with your pencil.

Step 5: Working quickly so that the epoxy doesn’t dry, use the pencil tip to apply dots of epoxy in between each spike bead so that they stick together. Let dry overnight.

Step 6: When the epoxy has completely dried, close off both ends of the wire by making two “loops” with the pliers. Shape the wire around your ear to ensure a proper fit.

d.i.y. tory burch-inspired necklace

Tory Burch’s art-inspired fall collection left us lusting for rich, jewel-toned pieces. The opulent accessories, in particular—complete with gilded pendants and chunky tassels—really caught our attention. So, in a few simple steps, we reworked one of our favorite bags from the runway into a statement-making necklace. Read on to find out how to craft your own piece of wearable art!

What You’ll Need: A cardboard jewelry box, silver chain, a tassel, three twist ties, metallic curling ribbon (in gold, blue, and green), orange rhinestones, scissors, a permanent marker, and glue.

Step 1: Using the scissors, poke two holes into one edge of the box (to hold the chain), and one hole in the center of the other (to hold the tassel).

Step 2: Pull each end of the chain through each hole, and secure them with the twist ties. Then, pull the top “loop” of the tassel through the other hole in the box, and secure it with a twist tie.

Step 3: Cut strips of the gold and green ribbon and glue them to the box, layering the gold and green strips throughout.

Step 4: Cut little strips of the gold and blue ribbon to create a “fan” pattern, and glue them to the box. Then, glue a rhinestone on top.

Step 5: After the glue has dried, draw a leaf pattern using the permanent marker. Let the marker ink fully dry before wearing!

Et voilĂ !

d.i.y. acid wash shirt

All you ’90s kids rejoice: Acid wash is having a fashion moment yet again. When we saw it strut down Rodarte’s Fall 2013 runway we did what any label-loving, salary-less student would do: cry. But then, in true grunge fashion, we took to the contents of our under-the-sink cabinet and emerged with spray bottle and bleach in hand, ready to put our own spin on the trend. Find out how to recreate the acid-washed look yourself (minus the traditional acid wash process) in a few (super simple) steps below.

What You’ll Need: A dark-colored T-shirt (cotton fabric works best), bleach, and a spray bottle. (Make sure you wear clothes you won’t mind ruining—bleach can do some serious damage!)

Step 1: Pour bleach into the spray bottle. Working outside (or in a well-ventilated area), start spraying the T-shirt. Press down lightly on the spray nozzle to achieve a “splatter” effect.

Step 2: Let the shirt dry (the bleach spots will slowly lighten to a bright white). When dry, thoroughly rinse the shirt with water and send it through a wash cycle alone.

Step 3: Accessorize!

d.i.y. charlotte olympia-inspired clutch

Charlotte Olympia’s Fall 2013 collection literally read like a fairytale, whimsically paying homage to some of our favorite childhood stories. Though the price tag may make the prospect of owning the beautiful pieces a fantasy for most, with a little D.I.Y. magic, we created our own version of the “Book of Spells” clutch. Check out our step-by-step guide to make one yourself (and live happily ever after!).

What You’ll Need: Duct tape (in red, white, and gold), glittery alphabet stickers, a book-shaped box, scissors, parchment paper, a pen, and stencils.

Step 1: Cover the front and back of the box with red duct tape.

Step 2: Lay out the glittery letters to figure out proper placement, then stick them to the box.

Step 3: Now it’s time to create the duct tape “stickers”. Print and cut out a mirror image of a “LOVE” stencil. When cutting, leave extra room around each letter at first (you will have to trim them down later!). Roll out a sheet of parchment paper, and stick strips of the gold and white duct tape to it.

Step 4: Flip the parchment paper over, and place each stencil letter on top of the white duct tape section first. Trace around and cut out each letter. Peel away the parchment paper backing and stick each white “sticker” onto the box.

Step 5: Now, trim down each stencil letter (to create the gold letter inlay). Repeat the same process in Step 4, using the gold duct tape this time.

Step 6: Finish it off by adding any designs you’d like!

d.i.y. punk statement necklace

From the Met Gala to the leather-heavy, spiked and studded fall runways, the fashion scene is currently reveling in the resurgence of all things punk. Luckily, statement-making accessories are the simplest way to amp up the rock factor of any look this season. With a handful of safety pins and a few well-placed spikes, we transformed an old bib necklace into an eye-catching punk statement piece to upgrade any fall look.

Here's what you'll need: A mesh bib necklace, safety pins, spike beads, and a gold link chain

Step 1: Thread the safety pins through the chain of the necklace.
Vary the angle of each safety pin so that it has a more chaotic feel.

Step 2: When you’re happy with the safety pin placement, open each safety pin (one at a time!) and thread the gold link chain onto it. Try to make a zig-zag pattern across the necklace with the gold chain, starting with the lowest safety pin on the left of the necklace.

Step 3: Then, thread a spike bead onto each safety pin. (We alternated between silver and gold beads.)

That’s it! Style it up with a leather jacket and T-shirt for maximum punk-rock appeal.
