K-pop group Winner's Yoon was discharged from mandatory military service Thursday morning, marking the completion of his term as an active-duty soldier.
Yoon, whose full name is Kang Seung-yoon, enlisted in June 2023, becoming the only member of the quartet under YG Entertainment to serve in the armed forces.
In the Army, Yoon earned recognition for his exemplary service. He received a commendation as an outstanding recruit, won awards in military book review and essay competitions and achieved an early promotion to the rank of corporal.
Yoon also made a generous donation during his military service, becoming the first celebrity to give 10 million won ($6,896) to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association to help victims of the severe floods that struck Korea and resulted in 48 deaths in July 2023.
Yoon's discharge comes as fellow Winner member Mino, whose real name is Song Min-ho, faces misconduct allegations during his alternative military service as a social service agent.
An entertainment news outlet reported Tuesday that Mino failed to regularly report to his assigned post at a public facility in Mapo District, Seoul.
YG said in a statement that his leave was "an extension of treatment he had been receiving prior to his service, and all other leaves were taken in accordance with regulations."
The Military Manpower Administration opened an investigation into the allegations, while a formal complaint accusing Mino of violating the Military Service Act was also filed with the police. The case is currently under review at the Mapo Police Station.
Winner debuted under YG as a five-member group in 2013 but faced early challenges when former member Nam Tae-hyun left the band in 2016 following a controversy. The group, now a quartet, overcame the setback and rose to prominence with hits like "REALLY REALLY," "LOVE ME LOVE ME" and "EVERYDAY."
