Q: Does the workshop provide any financial aid?
A: Unfortunately we are unable to provide any financial assistance.
Q: I am not sure whether I could legally stay in
the US for the workshop without a visa, or if this is not the case,
what visa I would need. Do you know what the current regulations are
and can you sponsor my visa application?
A: Please check all US entry-related matters on your end, as different
countries have different immigration agreements with the US. We are not
able to help with the entry processes to the US. As of October 26, 2004,
there are some changes that international travelers to the U.S. should
be aware of. For the latest information about obtaining visas,
visit the web site: http://travel.state.gov/visa/index.html
Q: What airport should I fly to?
A: San Diego International
Airport is nine miles from La Jolla, home of
Scripps Research
Institute.
Q: Is there parking near the workshop site?
A: Free parking is available at the Scripps building hosting the workshop.
Q: How do I get from the hotel to the workshop site?
A: Its a short
8-minute walk from the hotel to the NRAMM building
- follow this map.
Q: Can I stay longer before/after the workshop?
A: Shared housing (two per room) is provided between 7/11-7/17. You have to arrange
and pay for the additional time with the
Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines by yourself if you would like
arrive earlier or to stay longer.
Q: How does the pairing of room-mates work and
would people know who they would share rooms with before arrival?
A: Pairing will be mostly done at check-in time. Participants will not
be notified in advance.
Q: How do I get from the hotel to the workshop site?
A: Its a short
8-minute walk from the hotel to the Center for Integrative Molecular Biosciences
- follow this map.
Q: Am I registered as a University of Illinois or Scripps
Research Institute student for the
workshop?
A: No. The workshop participants are not legally registered as students
at either institution. Attending the workshop is comparable to participation in any
conference or a professional meeting and does not establish any formal
association with the sponsoring organizations.
Q: Will I have internet access at the
Hilton La Jolla?
A: Internet access is available for a fee in the hotel rooms.
Q: Will I have internet access at the Scripps workshop room?
A: Yes. Instructions for logging onto the Wireless Guest Network are here. Of course you'll want to print off those instructions to have with you when you arrive.
