16. I might enlarge upon all the many charms
of country life, but I realize that I have already said
too much. However, forgive me if I go on, for my
farmer's zeal has carried me away; besides, old age
is naturally inclined to talk too much—and this I
say in order not to acquit it of every fault. Well,
then, it was in this sort of life that Manius Curius
passed his remaining years after he had triumphed
over the Samnites, the Sabines, and Pyrrhus; and,

from mine), I cannot sufficiently admire the frugality
of the man or the spirit of the age in which he
lived.
