Major Andrew R. Venable, of General Hampton's staff, who was captured in October last near Petersburg, has escaped from prison and just arrived safely in the Confederacy. He escaped a few days after his capture by leaping from a railroad train within six miles of Philadelphia. He then walked to Philadelphia, and, after several months' stay within the enemy's lines, found an opportunity to make good his escape to Virginia.
