--"Shadow," the army correspondent of the Mobile
Register, writing from
Florence under date of the 22d, says that, while stopping at a house in that vicinity, a few days ago,
General Pillow was informed by the lady of the house that a soldier was killing her hogs.
He immediately went out and ordered the soldier off. The latter refusing to obey,
General Pillow told him who he was and again ordered him to let the hogs alone.
Determined not to leave without a supply of pork, the soldier shot one of the hogs, whereupon
General Pillow drew his pistol and fired, killing him on the spot.
