Bogus detectives.
--Three white men, representing themselves as detectives in the employ of Captain Thomas W. Dorwall, assistant provost-marshal of Richmond, visited the house of a free negro named Amos Evans, on Adams street, between Clay and Leigh, last Wednesday night, under presence of being in search of free negro deserters from the batteries. They ransacked every hole and corner in the place, and took away with them over $450 in money, besides three very fine silk dresses. It is hardly necessary to say that neither of them over had any connection with Captain Dorwell's corps of officers; but that they were nothing more than worthless thieves, who reserted to the of "detective" to gain an entrance into the house which they intended to rob.
