Gas Lights will be as high in a short time as tallow dips, judging from the price of gas as established by the Council. Many of the gas consumers are persons of moderate means, and it does not seem just to make them pay for lighting the streets and public buildings. Would it not be more equitable to raise the tax on real estate, and thus make property holders pay for lighting the streets and thus guarding their property?
