Mobile to be defended to the last.

--The Mobile Advertiser has the following relative to the coming defence of that city:

‘ While Gen. Johnston was recently in this city the prophets of evil begun to whisper abroad that he had come to consult with Gen. Maury about the ways and means of evacuating the city. When this was mentioned to Gen. Johnston his grave face relaxed into a smile, and he said "Had that been my purpose I should not have shown my countenance among you. I am here for the directly opposite purpose of looking into your defences and preparing to hold your city." Afterwards, when he had visited the works, and minutely examined every position and gun, he remarked to the same gentleman, "You can tell your people that Mobile is the most defensible seaport position in the Confederate States." Mobile is to be defended, then, to the last.
