The Achievement of Lieut.

The exploit of at Reid, recorded in another column, may compare with any on record for romantic gallantry and that cool calculation of chances which is so apt to secure victory in the most dangerous circumstances. Lieut. It has Illustrated the character of those brave seamen who are so abundant in the Confederate States, and who only want a chance what they really are. The Yankees continually of their mighty navy and the invincible valor of their seamen. Hitherto, however, while the superior number of their ships is admitted, the praise of superior valor must be accorded to us. Their mighty squadrons at Vicksburg and Charleston have done nothing, while the ecstasy of joy with which they hall the victory of their two monitors over a single stranded ship proves that a triumph is something to which they are not accustomed.
