Confederate Bonds
--As will be seen by his announcement elsewhere, Mr. Gwathmey, of this city, has a considerable amount of flour which he is desirous of exchanging for Confederate bonds. Not only the papers, but public and private report, have given a number of people credit for an extra desire to rid themselves of the species of currency referred to. In seme instances keepers of retail stores have refused to take it. Such a course of conduct cannot, under any circumstances, be considered very patriotic, and must in the end, if persisted in, result in the destruction of the public credit and downfall of all our hopes. The refusal to receive payment of a debt in Confederate money is prima facieevidence of a latent infidelity to the Southern cause. The currency is the sinew of the war, and it should be the care of all to sustain it at any hazard.
