Death of a murderer.

--We take the following item from the Memphis Avalanche, of the 30th ultimo.

A few months since, Matthew McCarthy, living in South Memphis, deliberately shot and killed his wife because she would not give him money in her possession. He was tried at the present term of the criminal Court, and convicted. He attempted, on reaching the jail, to kill himself, by cutting his arm in the most violent manner. He came near bleeding to death, but was partially saved. On Thursday he was sentenced to be hung, and on Thursday night he died at the city hospital, in the Navy-Yard. Thus the murderer and the murdered have, in a few short months, been summoned to their final account.
