Durability of wood.

--The advocates of wood for water-pipes and the like have their position strengthened by a statement in the Auburn Daily Advertiser. The dam of a mill near that city, which was constructed in 1797, has just been removed, and the timbers which were laid in the mud and not exposed to the air were in a remarkable state of preservation. Some of them were as sound as when out from the forest. They had been cut 64 years.
